Kids Can you hide a gun from the best screener at an airport?

I say yes.

Position of the gun in the luggage has a lot to do with the ID of it. Secondly addition of clutter will add to the difficulty of finding it.

I say that the highest payed ex military security agent will miss some guns placed carefully in lugage.

I get sick of them blaming the screeners being underpaid or inept. but I am not in the industry and I do not know the particulars of identification of weapons or the situations involved with the fake guns that were smuggled through security. But The process is flawed not necissarily the people doing the screening.

Any airport screeners or airline security people tell me different. I would love to be educated. Is it the technology or the screeners.

PS I am sure there are some inept screeners as well but the major problem is the technology and the process more than the people IMUEO In My Un educated Opinion.

They are, due, not of their own fault, but that of their employer that doesn't pay them enough or train them enough.

I have said it before and I say it again, our security and lives cannot be put in the hands of private business aimed at making profits.

It's stupid and the results are obvious.

But back to the original question.

can you with relative ease hide a gun from a screener who is excellent. Would a Highly trained screener be able to find a gun that is placed in a way as to look like something harmless.

I am guessing that private business is not the culprit here.

Saying that profit is the problem here i suspect is wrong. I feel that you will find similar problems in government screeners. And you cant even fire them when they show up bad.

I do not want to give terrorists any Idea's but I can guarantee that anyone could hide a gun and several clips of ammo in a way as to be almost impossible to spot by just looking at the process.

Am I wrong in saying that even the best screener could be spoofed a good % of the time given position of the weapon. A three D scann would be much better. Where the passanger does not choose the position of the package.

CM Who says that $ = Quality.

Not paying enough is not the cause. BTW are all screeners paid Minimum wage at all airports. are the more higly paid screeners that much better. Or does looking at 5000 packages not able to be done by human eye.

Just throwing higher paid people at a problem solves nothing.

In manufacturing, statistics show that 100% visual inspection of anything will only find about 80% of any defective product. The only way to really increase the odds is to have redundant inspections. In some airports I've seen more than one screener watching the x-ray. They also have different colors that show different types of material - that probably helps some. They also have random rechecks at boarding where they take everything out of the bags. The odds are against any one person getting through, but if a bunch of people trying it could happen.

I feel the random rechecks are intentionally focused on people of non arab decent with the intent of being PC.

Wasting a recheck on a 70 year old caucasion woman is increasing the odds for the terrorist. If they do not wish to simply target arabs they should at least profile the age group.

But the fact that they found 50% of the guns missed really leaves an awful large number that can get through even with the random screenings. Besidides if I am the owner of the bag and I Take out the shirt covering my gun would it be conceivable that I could palm it under the shirt as I remove it.

Well, if you're crafty like that one guy in that movie who built that wooden gun (I can't remember the movie name) to assasinate someone, then I don't think anybody would find it.

Send a message via AIM to Vanguarde
You know you can get a ceramic gun though almost any airport checkpoint - and ANY USA airport really easy.

they are quite expensive, and I believe they are only one or two shots before they break.
no metal, and you can easily hide the shape.

I also have heard of that Vanguarde. A doubel barrel type mechanism perhaps

I wouldn't want to try--especially at an El Al security check point. They have their own highly trained security.
