7/8 yr old softball tounament

This weekend our league hosted our areas first ever 7/8 yr old girls softball tournament - and there was a whole lot of cheering/screaming/giggling goin on. - It's not quite T-ball, but it's not quite 'real' softball either - but it was great fun.

My daughter's team lost - but there was no disapointment in mudville - they got a t-shirt and trip to DQ -

There's nothing quite like youth sports!!

Sounds like a great time, Ken. Enjoy these times, that's the age when it's best.

My daughter stopped softball at age 14 when a team disbanded, and an ankle injury would have kept her out the following year anyway. I miss that, but I still manage a "boys" baseball team - these guys are 18!
Seems like around age 12 it gradually becomes more & more competitive, and once they passed about 14, a lot of the fun went out of it. By now, the prevailing attitude is "win - win - WIN!!"
Not just my team either, almost all the players are that way. But then, most of the kids that just wanted to have fun are gone by now & the remainder are the die-hard "veterans". Our division had something like 12 teams ten years ago, only four remain in this final year.

Ken, by all means stick with it as long as your daughter wants to play. It's worth all the work, all the hassles, and all the dust.
Might even be worth the smell of damp dirty equipment in a closed-up camper shell!

As long as she had fun. That's the main goal.

Ed_S - Oh, yes... my older boy is 14 - and plays as much baseball as he can, school, little league jrs. and jr. legion ball. - You are right.... he's a ball player.. no doubt, but it's a different game than when HE was 7, and jumping up and down cause he got a double (did you see me, did you see me!)

For the girls this weekend, we had handed out player bio's for the players to fill out.. and then throughout the weekend, I'd read them over the PA.. favourite movies, food, etc... the girls are a bit different than the boys... I never remember the boys singing in the dugout!
