Kids Questions for cat lovers

I have "inherited" a very spoiled "Himalayan" female that is 5 years old. The cat has not been fixed, but will need to be if she's gonna stay here.

Is there a problem spaying/neutering a cat this old?

No problem... You can snip them at nearly any age....

I have a 8 year old that I didnt get fixed until he started spraying. Take my word for it, it is nasty. Get it done before any habits even start. If you have any doubts, talk to your Vet. They know best...

So..... did you make the appointment with the Vet yet?

BTW, the best cat I ever had was one I got "used" instead of "new" (a kitten)

enjoy

No problem. There would be a problem if you wanted to declaw her at this age, but not for spaying. (As a matter of fact, most vets will not declaw a cat at that age.)

With you saying she is spoiled, I'd have to agree that you get it done ASAP. Once she gets upset at you for not doing what she is used to, she will let you know. One way is to spray, and like they said above, that is when it gets ugly.

I'm pretty sure it's only males that spray...they do this to mark territory. Females would rather put fluffy pillows all over the place.

Good for you for taking in this cat!
It is ok to "fix" your cat at most any age.
As for the declawing, you probably shouldn't, and as it was said before, a vet probably won't. BUT, the good news is -- if the claws get to be trouble, your vet can show you how to trim the claws properly and you can also opt to get these plastic tips that go over the claws.

Post a pic of the kitty?

Plastic tips to go over the claws? I can just see kitty jumping and hopping tring to get rid of the contraptions over her claws. sorta like the duct tape on the bottom of the feet trick with cats. LOL

I wouldn't worry about it being spoiled she will figure out that she can't get spoiled by you.

See Drs. Foster & Smith - great catalog company to buy from.

We also bought ours a fountain. We have two that like to drink from the bathtub faucet, so it was a natural choice! We also got the optional reservoir. See the link http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...12&pCatId=1783
