CHiPs now in steathly 160+mph Camaros

Alright! Now they're just not playing fair!

California Highway Patrol just got a batch of new patrol cars. They are very traffic stealthy 2002 Camaros. They are painted all white (no black/white) with just the CHP logo on the doors. The flashing lights are high intensity LEDs that make for an ultra-low-profile light bar. Even when specifically looking for the profile of a cop light bar on car rooftops, this one becomes impossible to see at about 375 ft.

Top speed of these puppies: 160 mph or so.

Also theres rumor that 3 or 5 of the Carmaros contain the Chevy LT5 engine. You might know that engine from Corvette ZR-1's. Factor in that cop cars are exempt from smog regulations, and we're talking 180-190+mph!

I'm looking forward to many more seasons of World's Scariest Police Chases on FOX.

CHP unveils low-profile Camaros

CHP unveils stealth patrol cars

Watch out for the CHP's new patrol car!

Wow..They're cheating!! I wonder how much they speed when no one is looking. :0

Therefore, the CHP will soon launch a new hot tool to make sure truckers drive more carefully.
LMAO so they upgrade to a Camaro? Riiiiighhhhttt....

By them driving a Camaro it'll make the roads better? For some reason people driver better when they KNOW the police are around. WTF...Is my logic just messed up?

And the CHP says other states have been successful with their sports cars.
I bet... Nothing like being a cop clocking people, cruising around in a sports car, and writing out tickets...

Now here is the irony…the Camaros go 165 miles an hour, that is 35 miles an hour faster than the current patrol cars. But typically, big rig trucks can only go about 85 to 100 miles an hour.
That's what I don't get, it's to make the "big rigs" more effecient with cars but there is no need for a Camaro. A festiva could get the job done.

Yup, goes to show that all they are used for is revenue generation, plain and simple.
The Texas DPS had a couple corvettes that were "forfeited" during drug raids a few years back, and they were painted up in the familiar b&w paint and I saw one in north Houston a while back, and I was like WTF was that?!

The Texas DPS truck enforcement division here uses Ford F-150's and some Dodge Rams for enforcement of the license and weights on trucks.

Be carefull in Indiana. They use a little of everything. I think all the camaro's have been retired.
But they have a large selection of other unmarked cars floating around.
I know they have a yellow 6 pac Ford motel from the IDOT that is an unmarked.
They also have a late 90's Dodge 1/2 ton pickup. With a cross bed tool box and running boards.
A few chevy Lumina's
I have seen one Citation. (2 door to boot).
A few Crown vic's all different colors
Plus some others I have not seen in person yet.
All the ones above I have seen in my local area. In the last year.

That's not all Indiana has. We've had Camaros roaming around for at least 8 years. I've also seen Suburbans, Cherokees (pulled over by an unmarked one), one Cadillac Seville STS, and even recently saw a brown 1985 or so Pontiac Bonneville.

The cops are really crafty in my state. I've even seen them go so far as to install RADAR units in highway construction dump trucks and then go after you in squads.

Yo Indiana folks. Driving through your state Memorial Day weekend... saw some unmarked green Ford Tauri working 31 South. Just a FYI for ya =)

That's the main reason I drive with a CB... little uniden that fits between the seats/plugs into cig lighter, with a mag mount antenna. I here what and where things are hiding... as well as why traffic is stopped, how to get aorund it if possible, upcoming weather/road conditions. It can be quite entertaining.

They don't have too many unmarked cars in MI. But recently I have heard the truckers talking of unmarked camaros on I94 near the IN stateline in MI. They are pretty tricky here too. Just the other day they had officers concealed up on bridges over a two mile stretch of road shooting the cars from above. They had cruisers waiting on the ramps to go get them after they had been clocked.

Good idea! Buy a car that GM will stop making next year. Do you understand what this means? A car being rejected by the leader in automotive engineering mediocrity!

I haven't had a problem with the state cops, although I only see them cruising around in their Crown Vics.

On I94 by the IN stateline in Michigan I have noticed there are some pretty good hiding spots. Just gotta be careful. Out in Jackson I normally know where the cops like to hide anyway. Once I get towards Ann Arbor I have no idea.

A bird dog and CB. I don't leave home with out one. First thing I put into my truck when I bought it.

Mr Goodbytes
I haven't been up your way in a few years. I'll watch out when I do. I live around Kokomo. On a side note. Is the Blast Camp paint ball field still in business west of Valpo?
