I am horrified that Elizabeth Smart is the only child being reported on.

The case of 14-year-old Elizabeth Smart is still being reported in the media.
What about all the others? Dont they deserve some notice?

Nearly 2,400 people have been reported missing each day, most of them children! DOES NO ONE CARE??

right or wrong the media is about ratings. The unusual and sensational is what makes things get ratings. The fact that they even have a mystery person makes it all the more intriguing. No one would pay attention to 2400 news clips if the station posted them. Secondly many of those 2400 are custody desputes where there is not danger to the child. The stranger theft is inherently more newsworthy.

I think what makes this case particulary horrifying is that someone broke into the house, and abducted the sleeping child.

That to makes it more news worthy. That someone broke into the relative safety of the family home. A place that we consider safe and controlled.

Finally the fact there was a witness that saw the situation and responded strangely. Not judging but it was an unusual response.

news do not have time to watch reports for that many kids - think of Eliza Smart as a representtitive of them all or something - at least you know there are others =/

As I understand it. Most are custody battles and not life threatening. Not random kidnappings.

I dont know why SMART is more important then ANY of the other children. Mentioning 1 or 2 or 5 others would make me feel better about the situation. As it is, it looks like the only way to be noticed is to be rich.
Can you tell me? Is it because her parents are rich and the others are not?

Yes. Just IMO, and unfair as all get out, but...yes. :sad:

What Surreal is saying is that custody disputes and family kidnappings are not generally lethal, at least, and as such do not involve the same kind of anguish.

My own divorce involved this kind of emotional hell, but at least my girls are okay now.
