Blockbuster rant

first off, no this is not about them screwing me over or anything like that, just have some grips about them. Normally i go to Hastings (don't know how many of you know of them) so i'm not used to Blaockbuster. well i got a 10 dollar gift certificate so i decided what the heck and went off to rent some movies. First of all the selection sux0r the big one. all i saw were movies that seemed to have to have come from Hollywood (didn't even see good movies like Waking Life or even Akira). they only seemed to have movies that catered to the lowest common denominator. then i also noticed that they didn't have a forgien film section (i was looking for Amelie). so i went home to research this and i discovered that they don't carry NC-17 or Unrated movies. Even though i see where tehy are coming from on NC-17 (although i don't agree with it), why Unrated? most of the time unrated movies are either a) foreign films or b)tv shows (sometimes also foreign). this basically rules out movies such as City of Lost Children that are perfectly acceptible family films (even more so than some american PG or PG-13 movies). This also tends to lead to the MPAA and how off-balance THAT system is. movies like the Matrix are rated R while Austin Powers is rated PG-13 (i loevd both btw). was it just me or was Austin powers not near as appropriate for kids as the Matrix? Is the American industry (especially non-hollywood and Independent FIlms) doomed to suffer this supposed double-standard, or am i just delusional since it's kinda late?

I wonder if you rented from a very small blockbuster?
I just rented Akira last week, and while their selection of "foriegn films" is not huge they have had one in several of their stores.

The problem with foreign films is there's nothing but a bunch of foreigners in 'em and none of 'em speak English. What's wrong with those people anyway?

*not a fan of foriegn films*
Most of the time the plot is totally WHACKED off it's @$$.

I believe the only one that I liked was Life Is Beautiful. That was actually funny and well done.

There isn't a Blockbuster around here so Hollywood Video dominates....I like them.

Austin P. is COMPLETELY inappropriate for younger people...I was amazed with the 2nd one....totally perverted....some stuff like that is ok but not a ton of it. I liked the first one better. The Matrix hardly has any swears or gore in it yet it is R...amazing....*just* people dieing...and they aren't even real! They are in The Matrix...it's just their virtual bodies

Know that Crododile Hunter d00d is having his own movie??? Can't believe it. He makes all the anger in me come out

.....him and the Power Puff Girls (who also have their own movie).
