Now back to Thread: One of the defining earmarks of a superlative actor is that they lift the banality of the materiel they are delt with, some even in the dowdiest of flicks, there is a spark worth seeing. Certainly Sir Larry, GH, and Michael Caine are in that group.

Even when playing a "racially" defined" role, he was able to elevate it to Everyman. An illustrious career--starting with
Blackboard Jungle More than anybody, he changed Holleywood for African-American actors. And Samual Jackson and Morgan Freeman have acted and "represented" with distinction.
