Astronomers say an asteroid the size of a football pitch has 'just missed' the Earth.
It was only spotted as it drifted away after its closest approach.
The rock passed within 75,000 miles at 23,000 miles per hour and could have wiped out a city if it had hit.
Asteroid 2002MN was well inside the orbit of the moon at its closest point on June 14.
It wasn't spotted until three days later by astronomers at the Linear search programme in New Mexico.
The last time an asteroid is known to have passed so close was in 1994.
2002 MN is a lightweight among asteroids and not capable of causing damage on a global scale.
The near-miss happened just as UK telescopes on La Palma were being tested to search for so-called Near Earth Objects.
That's a bit scary.
