Gomer almost bought the farm...
After leaving the chat last night... I decided to fool around with a broken olympus camera. It won't turn on, but it does function (ie loads film, rewinds film). I took the body off the camera to poke around see if I could figure out what was going on inside it.
Within the camera is a large capacitor. I checked the voltage across it when I started, and it was zero. Safe right? Well in the process of poking around inside the camera, somehow charged the cap. Even though I never managed to get the camera on.
I was reclined in my bed with my shirt off looking at this camera... rotating it in my hands etc... when I set my middle finger on that cap. Well it lit me up, killed my hand and sent the camera flying. That wasn't the bad part... the bad part was it landed on my abdomen next to my belly button on my left side and lit me up again. Now that one hurt... really got my heart going too.
I checked the cap again and this time it had over 200 volts in it. Had that landed within a couple inches of my heart instead of by my belly button, I think I would be a goner. Gomer the Goner.
Now I know the dangers of electronics, but it was two in the AM and I wasn't being too cautious... just screwing around. Those two bites serve as good reminder to me to be more careful in the future that's for damn sure!
So everyone one remember next time you are fooling around with that monitor or PS... Caps are deadly dangerous. Even in innocent things like cameras!
