Digital Conscience

If it were possible, to have a digital version of yourself (personality, character, memories, experiences) copied into the net, would you have it done?.

If it were possible to transport these 'virtual selves' to the far corners of our galaxy, would you take part?

If you could be in Australia one moment, and Alaska the next, without needing your body, would you have it done?

I just finished a book called Emergence, it a fictional futuristic story, and it touches briefly on the subject.

I’m not sure if I would have it done, kind of have mixed feelings about the issue.

It could all end like the Matrix, we end up in the networks

I would love it if you could always tell the difference between the reality and the virtual world. I wouldnt want it if not.

If I never have to see the myself then I would have no problem. The universe would be better off with a few more of me. LOL

OOOOO a holo deck. That would be the end of humanity thought. You though we spent alot of time in the computer room. Geeze could you imagine a world where you could remove the character triats you dont like from your friends. And redesign your girlfriends.

Oh, consciousness. No, I'll wait until I'm dead for that (read Ken MacLeod' s The Stone Canal). But I'd love to have a digital conscience; maybe it'd keep me from committing programming errors.
