The great Jack Buck
Jack Buck, dead at 77, has been one of my favorite radio play-by-play voices for years. I used to turn down the ABC prima donnas and listen to Jack Buck and Hank Stram. They were a great combination. Buck would never try to wow the audience, but deferred to Stram's experience and wisdom. But my favorite Jack Buck moment will always be his call of the Kirk Gibson World Series home run, one of the great events in baseball, made even more dramatic by a great call.
