I'm not surprised. I've done business with the federal government before, and we tend to avoid it if at all possible. The paperwork and red tape are so involved that it takes all the fun (and a lot of profits) out of these jobs.

AFAIC, those who make a killing on federal contracts have got to have something shady going on, and we just don't work that way here.

I heard about it at the employee meeting last month.

Trust me, Surreal, those who were "in the know" will now give you even more respect!

I know what Cadd's talking about, believe me.

But its not always so bad. Government contracts are sometimes huge and very profitable, the red tapism notwithstanding.

Home Depot will be out of business in 5 - 10 years. Wonder why?

Read the items I have copyed from the posted link.

Quote:
The notice also says commercial credit-card customers will be alerted with in June bill that purchases would not be allowed "that would cause the company to be covered by or responsible in any way for compliance with" three federal laws or executive orders:
Quote:
• Executive Order 11246 of 1965, which bans discrimination against any employee or applicant for employment because of race, color, religion, sex or national origin.
Quote:
• Section 503 and Section 505 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, which requires affirmative action and prohibits employment discrimination by federal government contractors and subcontractors.
Quote:
• The Vietnam Era Veterans' Readjustment Assistance Act of 1974, which requires that anyone doing business worth $25,000 or more with the federal government must take affirmative action to hire and to promote qualified targeted veterans.
Read between the lines. Many people fought for the right to be equal in this country. That means in job employment as well as social agenda. Home depot is saying they do not believe they sould go by this.
The last quote is the big one for me. How many Vietnam era vet's are in the U.S. I for one will keep driving the added 15 miles to another store now. Home depot is opening a new store in the town to the west of me. But with these posted practices. I do not need thier products now. I am also going to print out this item and give it to some of the other Vietnam era vet's I know. I am one of the ones from the that era. I did serve my country during that time. I might have to go to traveling wall when it comes to Kokomo, IN. A very large gathering of people of this era. I am sure that they will be interested in this to.

I am sorry about the rant. But I feel that the reason they stated is a slap in the face to everyone that has been in the service or was in the civil rights movement of the 60's.

And Home Depot isn't giving up sucking at the government teat, either. From the Washington Post story on the same subject:

Quote:
As wary as the retailer is about its relationship with Uncle Sam, it is not shy about tapping federal resources.

Earlier this month, Home Depot and the Labor Department announced that the Cabinet agency would help screen, recruit and hire 40,000 new Home Depot employees over the next year. The program is designed to help alleviate unemployment. Other companies, including Toys R Us Inc., have expressed interest in the program, too.

Home Depot has also beefed up its efforts to recruit military personnel to its two-year management training program. Under chief executive Robert Nardelli, the company hopes to attract 20 percent of its management applicants from the military.
