"International" driver's license?

Is there such a thing???

First off you are alive. Hoooorah!!!

Secondly You apparently got in some trouble when you were away. If you have been researching this kind of stuff on the web. heh.

Thirdly I have no Idea. You can drive in the US due to reciprocity with your home nation. I drove in germany on US license. I do not understand what entity could generate this license. Hmmmmmmmmmm.

I have never heard of any "international Licence" as far as I know they arnt really needed in some places as long as you have one from your host country. I know people from the US can come to germany and drive for 30 Days or so with a US licence under a visitor thing. But for extended stays your suposed to get a german one. If your in an acident with an american licence its your fault no matter what. I dont see this as a Legit thing.... but I dunno.

There is such a thing, but it's not a driver's license in the usual sense; it's a certificate that assures that the holder has a valid driver's license in his own country. This usually solves disputes and relieves hassles at car rental agencies. Most countries don't care. I've used one in Italy and in Anguilla.

You can get them through AAA (in the US) or by mail. There's nothing special about them, and you should not pay a significant amount of money for one: about $15 US plus the cost of the passport photo, if memory serves.

IT IS NOT VALID IN YOUR OWN COUNTRY, so if you have a suspended license or no license, forget it. This ad is a scam.

Thanks, guys.

First off...No trouble here. I've just been on a week-long fishing/boating vacation. WooHoo! Pics when they get developed. No research either. This was just a typical spam-mail that I got this week.

2nd: I figured this was a scam right off, though I've never driven a car in a foreign country & don't know about international laws. I know that if a US citizen drives into Mexico, you need to buy Mexican insurance; but that's about all.

I wonder if you show it to the police though would it be enough for them to get you out of your ticket. Would the police be savy to it and drag you down town or would they write the ticket against the international license.

My comments before were in reference to the cadman eulogy.
