I need help i am trying to get my Avatar up...

I wont this pic, and when i try to make it my avatar it saise it is not a valid gif or jpg ??????

Can anyone help...

what size is it (both in width/height and disk size)? it has to be under (i think) 10k and 64x64 or under.
