Q: Is ECPI a good school? or do i have other options?

ive been beating my brains out over the past week or two over which school i wanted to go to. I wanted a college that offered Computer Engineering or high level computer programming levels and i had to settle with the school down the street: ECPI. The counsler lady said that it is a step in the door to the future not the walk in (still with me?)

the only programs they offer:
web development (i passed the programming test)
a program dealing with technical aspects of PCs (not sure what it is called) and another program that has the networking applications and Os study (w2kpro, sunsystems etc).
(programs mean majors to real world people BTW, and it is in the guidlines of an associates degree upon completion)

i need some advice and some right now would be great tia tia ~>judo

I work in the engineering field. There is alot of bigoty against non BSEE engineers. If you want to do the ECPI thing I would choose the field that you want to go into and do a little research. Go to a business that employs the type of engineer or programmer and ask what the advancement looks like for AS vs BS.

I am an un papered engineer, I can run circles around my fellow engineers. But at my last job they halted my carreer path because I did not have my degree. My boss said candidly to me I know you are a better engineer than the others here but they spent 4 years in school and have earned their position. On that note I began writing my new resume.

When I moved my current job I got the respect and esteem of my collegues. Most of them are surprised to know I am not a BSEE. It has took me 10 years to get where I am. I am a Senior Engineer for a top 20 cellular market. My job entails programming, Statistical analysis, Calc, Trig, and so on with my Training in the military the eqivelent of an ASEE it has been hard.

The long and short of it. If possible I would probably go for the 4 year degree. The school is not as important as the paper. Most places will look at level of education GPA and personality for a starting position. Some places look at the school but that is not as big a stumbling block as no degree or an ASEE. But it all depends on what you want to do for a living.

Oh yea, I would also ask to talk to a graduate or two if possible if you choose the ECPI method. They may be able to attest to the opportunities you will get in the open market. I don't know if the school can give you names but sounds like a good course of action. Don't ask for the star perfomers just joe blow graduate.

That's good advice, Epidemic, and (unfortunately) oh-so-true. I've seen this happen, myself.

That piece of paper seems to mean everything to some people!

Don't worry about the cost Judo. If it's something that you really want to do, take the debt and enjoy your time.
In the long run, your personal enjoyment of your job will outweigh the debt that you have accumulated. Or at least that's how I'm looking at it.

Judo, if y our highschool grades aren't great. Go to a junior college a year or 2 and pull em up! Then transfer! You can prove yourself for the engineering school of your choice.
Also it's much more important to have the paper than which college it came from. A degree is a degree (as long as it's not from the University of P.O. Box 687 )

thats what i was planning to do, but my sister went to our local community college and she was suspended because of her GPA and my dad dont like the school. I dont really care like you said about the money either because if i get what i want then ill be happy. It is important not to waste money though; thats' what im trying to do. Thanx everyone
