I work in the engineering field. There is alot of bigoty against non BSEE engineers. If you want to do the ECPI thing I would choose the field that you want to go into and do a little research. Go to a business that employs the type of engineer or programmer and ask what the advancement looks like for AS vs BS.
I am an un papered engineer, I can run circles around my fellow engineers. But at my last job they halted my carreer path because I did not have my degree. My boss said candidly to me I know you are a better engineer than the others here but they spent 4 years in school and have earned their position. On that note I began writing my new resume.
When I moved my current job I got the respect and esteem of my collegues. Most of them are surprised to know I am not a BSEE. It has took me 10 years to get where I am. I am a Senior Engineer for a top 20 cellular market. My job entails programming, Statistical analysis, Calc, Trig, and so on with my Training in the military the eqivelent of an ASEE it has been hard.
The long and short of it. If possible I would probably go for the 4 year degree. The school is not as important as the paper. Most places will look at level of education GPA and personality for a starting position. Some places look at the school but that is not as big a stumbling block as no degree or an ASEE. But it all depends on what you want to do for a living.
Oh yea, I would also ask to talk to a graduate or two if possible if you choose the ECPI method. They may be able to attest to the opportunities you will get in the open market. I don't know if the school can give you names but sounds like a good course of action. Don't ask for the star perfomers just joe blow graduate.
