Hehe, my sister went on one of those cruises a couple of years ago - but it wasn't planned. After they got on the boat and headed out to sea, a generator caught fire and they had to head back to port and unload. That was definitely a cruise to nowhere.

One ship I worked on that made 4 month North Cape Europe tours alternating with 3 month South Pacific trips would come back to the states and we would make 2 week Alaska and Hawaii runs but the great passenger deal was from L.A to San Fran overnite for 95$, the ship was basically empty having disembarked most folks in L.A. with maybe a couple hundred goin to Frisko---see the Calif coastline on your 24 hour cruise, go under the Goldern Gate, eat 300$ worth of food then fly for 50$ back or rent-a-car and drive along the coast which is what my friends would do---great CHEAP fun!...
