american taliban#2= jose padilla a/k/a abdullah al-muhajir
Jose was raised in Chicago by a single mom.
he was a member of latin kings street gang, with
5 arrests for assault. in jail, he learned about
a certain religion (i dont want to offend anyone here, huh?). he married an egyptian wife, moved to pakistan and then afghanistan. he was trained in
explosives by al queda (sp?). he researched
dirty bombs - which is a regular bomb wrapped with non-weapons grade radioactive material.
arrested yesterday coming into the USA carrying
plans on how to make a dirty bomb.
===================================
thank to customs, and all the other agencies
for working together to stop this tradgedy
in the making.

You'd think he WOULDN'T carry the plans with him... Yes, it's good that he was stopped, but not EVERYONE will be stopped. That's what kind of disturbs me..

And the bleeding heart liberals are already defending this guy. Their total paranoia of big brother has them thinking they will be picked up at any moment by the government for sedition for nothing and locked away for ever.
I think in times like these we have to sacrafice some of our personal liberties. I would rather put 100 inocent people in jail than let 8,000,000 people die in new york. Especially because innocence can be proven. 8,000,000 lives can not be replace.

Ya know Epidemic, it is possible to give up lots of freedom and not be any more secure.
Go watch Episode 2, you'll see the consequences of giving too much power to the govt. in time of crisis. Not to mention all the Jedi lives lost. Use the force Luke, let it guide your actions.
Humm....I don't reason well at 1:30 am....going back finishing up an install now...don't mind me.

This is exactly what I've been saying all along. The enemy is within. What happens the next time they (Al Qaida) recruits or has already recruited an Irish guy? These organizations have very long hands and lots of money.
Look at Israel-country is the size of Delaware, population less than NYC, intense security. But can they stop the bombings?
Now imagine the breadth and depth and diversity here. There is no way you can stop any terrorist activity totally. Sure they'll intercept some.
Short of turning this country into a "Police/Military State" nothing can be done.
All this CIA-FBI-Customs-INS-Military/Airporce/Navy/Coast Guard reorganization and billions of $ spent is just far@ing in a hurricane.
(Pardon the expression.)

(Pardon the expression.) | Sorry, but i disagree. Jose Padilla was stopped.
Yes, nothing is perfect, but that doesnt make the effort
less worthwhile. We may get wet when it rains, but does that mean we shouldnt put a roof on the house?

Well before thos "coalition" that President Bush put together to "stop terrorists" it arrested 2400 people or so, what are the chances that more than half of them actually had terrorist plans?
I doubt this "coalition" of his will do that much good, sure we'll stop SOME but there is no way EVERYTHING will be stopped.

Shahani,
Do you propose we sacrafice New York city. There are ways to crack down and give a reasonable amount of security. I will sacrafice some personal freedoms. You could take this to national ID with biometric data if need be. Then the police detain you if you do not have your ID. I Would prefer not to do this. But if we sart seeing too much of these attempts. You would also have to close the borders That way you can shoot anything that tries to cross them except at check points. These are all the extremes but Unless you have a submarine we could secure the borders.
Simple first steps include grilling and watching people who travel to restricted or radical nations.
Watching the psyco al que da religious leaders in the US and those with suspect politics. Not to say you go out and shoot them but check their loyalty and remove them if they are not in keeping with the US.. That is not to say kick someone out for hating republicans or democrats but for sedition and treasonist talk.
We have millions of lives on the line. If this continues I feel steps will have to be taken to insure the many rather than the few. Drastic times will require drastic measures. If the pursuit of nukes and mass terrorism continue there is gonna be a big bang unless there is a crackdown. Even if there is still a chance there is a reduced chance.

Mike,
I would say probably some good. There would likely have been more terrorist attacks in the heat of the moment so with those 2500 people they found the 100 or so conspirators.
Now How many remain in jail now.
The people wrongly accused or detained will eventually be able to attain their freedom. But the dead victems of terrorism cannot ever achieve life again.

| Aren't we ALREADY doing that? If you're going from the middle east or somewhere like Somalia you better have every time of identification ever or you'll be hauled in. Quote: |

| Well no matter what, they'll end up getting nukes or some kind of mass destruction weapon, there is really no doubt. It's just a matter of WHEN... Quote: |

| True, and I would love to see everyone in the U.S. be safe, but everyone knows that can't/won't happen... Quote: |

| Very true, but they'll still be kept in prison and then they will be followed and hounded, but I can see where this would be needed.
