Well, I know most all of you are compassionate to animals and love animals, so I thought I'd share this story about my cow, Miracle, with you.
I grew up on a farm in Eastern Kentucky, so we've had animals of all sorts - from goats to cows to chickens to pigs.
When I was in 5th or 6th grade, one of our cows gave birth. She died during childbirth, and the baby was paralyzed in its legs.
My dad was going to shoot the baby, thinking it would die, starve to death, etc...
We were fighting and fighting. I begged and begged him not to shoot this poor baby. Finally, with my last plea, tears in my eyes, I said "Would you shoot me if I were crippled?"
That got to him - he put the gun back in the cabinet, locked it up, and turned back to me. He said, "Fine, but this is your responsibility." Every day, we bottle fed the calf, and we exercised his poor little unusable legs. This went on for months.... and it looked like he'd never walk.
Months after we took this on, we went out to feed him. To our suprise, the cow was standing. He was wobbly, but he was standing!!!! Everyday, he got stronger and stronger, and we kept on exercising his legs. Finally, he became a very big strong cow, and lived a perfectly happy life.
So, that's the story about my cow, Miracle.
