How to memorize a lot of material well?

I have a test in two weeks in my Chemistry class.
I have a lot of stuff I need to memorize, such as vocabulary and formulas....
I'm pretty good with the forumlas, I tend to have a knack with memorizing and manipulating numbers.... but the vocabulary....
What is the best way to memorize such textbook definitions?
Also, I need to memorize about 4 different charts. How do I begin to memorize all this, as well as retain it?

Whoa GZ, you're bringing back nightmares of helping my wife memorize medical terms when she was in nursing school.

It must have worked though, 'cause she graduated.

I'm still around. I've been lurking a bit, but have been pretty swamped lately so I haven't posted much.

If you got a graphing calculator... you could always put stuff in there.

But for actual memorization, repetition is best. If you use the formulas a lot for hw and such, you should get those down in no time.

geekgrl. I know that this may seem like the hard way, but believe me --- I just graduated with my chemistry degree -- the easiest way to learn the naming is to just learn the rules.... everything is very methodical in the naming department. know the rules = know the name....

the only problem that you are then left with is then having to memorize the "common" names for compounds that are not the same as the proper name. rubbing alcohol = isopropyl alcohol = a_really_long_name_that_I_don't_remember_anymore_!

heehee

good luck

-Z

One thing I know really helped me was this: When you're tired and burned out with studying, just stop, and go to bed early. Wake up early the next morning and study then...I don't know if it would work for everyone, but my brain always seemed more receptive in the early AM, after a decent night's sleep.

Best of luck!
