Computers are a lot like cars...

ever notice that computers and the way they work almost directly relates to cars and how they work? for instance:

cpu=engine

it is the heart and soul of the car/pc. the car/pc will not function without it. also with both, the bigger/faster, the better.

mobo=drive line(transmission, driveshafts, axles, etc.)

it is what takes the power from the cpu/engine and applies it to a task.

memory=brakes

without them, you would crash (pun intended)

case=body/frame(obviously)

although not technically necessary for functionality, it would be very uncomfortable and hard to use without it. also both case and body/frame all come with neat little features that add to the functionality of the car/pc.

vid card=display panel

they both show you visually what is goin on inside the machine.

soundcard=sound system obviously, no explanation needed

psu=fuel system

both take one form of energy and turn it into another. AC->DC, potential to kinetic energy

hdd=tires

as long as you have them you are fine but the bigger the better! also you can only use four tires at a time on most cars and on most mobo's you can only have four IDE devices(hdd's).

more could probably be added but i think ive said enough. anybody else know some similarities?

Heh, that's pretty good.

I used to explain things to people using cars as analogies, just because we're all so familiar with cars, that you can make analogies between cars and life and get your point across very clearly. Works for health, business dealings, all kindsa stuff.

I find (since I've been on this board) that I've been using computers more and more as the model. Especially Operating Systems, to describe the vastly different ways we in which we all think...

LOL

It's true! I've been thinking about getting some chrome thermaltake fan grills for my computer. I guess it's just like costumizing a car (only cheaper)!

I read somewhere that if automotive technology had advanced as fast and as much as computer technology, todays cars would have the following features:

1) Upper speed limit of 12,000 MPH
2) Life: 18 million Miles
3) HP: 2300 give or take
4) Oil change period: 75 years-
5) Fuel: hydrogen based. Car fuelled for life at time of manufacture. No refueling needed.
6) Tyre life: 2.5 million miles
7)Battery: what battery?
8) Cost: $1400 per car
10) Body: scratch/dent proof using materials with memory (they bounce back to original shape like a spring).

OK, OK, so I made some up, but you get the picture
