Cars of your youth
This thread is primarily directed towards those of my dad's generation, those who grew up with the 60's/70's muscle cars
I think I'd like to aquire one when I'm a bit older and more settled down (but before I would be "forced" to sell it and get money for the kid........................................... )
My dad had a '74 (or around there) AMC Javelin.....he would've gotten a more powerful car but his dad wouldn't let him have a 4b car, or else he would have gotten a Plymouth Duster 340.
I've been looking at the AMC AMX.....very cool looking and quite capable car, IMO, and not one of the 'mainstream' muscle cars that everyone seems to have/know about ('Cuda, 'stang, Road Runner, etc.). Also not as big as those cars........my dad was saying he would drag other cars with larger engines, they would get ahead on teh straightaway but he would easily lose them on the corners
Here's a few pics of an AMX (0-60 is in the 6 second region I believe)....the 390 V-8 -- 315 hp, 425 lb-ft torque is definately the most desirable : http://images.traderonline.com/img/1.../1931697_1.jpg http://images.traderonline.com/img/1...25734394_1.jpg http://faculty.concord.edu/~chrisz/hobby/68-AMX-2.html
So what kind of cars did you older gents have? Or any feedback on this era of cars is appreciated.
Warthog

Very nice, for me when you say AMC I automatically think of the AMC Eagle... butt ugly IMO lol
However, that's not a bad lookin' car... its got a few things I'm not totally keen on but I wouldn't turn it down for the right price
Now granted, I'm not your father lol but I started out with a very nice lookin' 83 Cutlass... all black with maroon detailing and a maroon vinyl top
Chrome rims and a Buick (ya ya laugh now lol) 350
Funny thing is, I have NO idea what year the engine was LOL
When I got it, it still had points and condenser so we assumed early 70's
Nice thing was, Buick put the distributor in the front of the block so it was easier to change the points and condensor... although the damn things blew out every 6 months
Loved the car though
Damn Michigan winters ate it alive though

I didn't have one, but I used to love the 1965 Mustang (I was in Jr High then) and it cost all of $3200 (loaded).
Awesome car.
The other car I used to like very much was the 1966 T-Bird. The newer one are no match to the classic styling of a 1965/66 model.
Now, my tastes are sober-a Volvo/Mercedes Benz/Cadillac are more to my taste.
Though my son (16) finds the Lexus SC430 totally awesome.

We also had a 1967 Chevelle, 1970 Chevelle, 1969 Red Convertable Chevelle.

ahh, wart, your bringin me back to a better place........anyway,heres a pic of a car some goofball dude had when i was going to hs. its a 69 rambler hurst rambler sc/rambler (i think thats the correct name for it) has a 390(tho i believe you could get some other motor for it ,a 401? please someone correct if not) and a hurst 4 speed. was based on a 69 rambler american.
the guy in high school was burning donuts on main street at around 3 am,and slid thru jc pennys glass entrance doors. a friend of mine bought it and put the engine in a gremlin x. i ve NEVER ridden in a car as insane as that gremlin. was jacked up and had 12 inch michey thompsons. if you stomped the gas pedal down and let off a few times,it would do about a 2 foot wheelie!
this pic isnt of the same car,but one like it.
i could go on and on...............

There is a size to how many words you can use in a post here. I stoped counting the cars I had when I was 21. At that time I had almost 100 titled and running in my name. When I was in high school. They knew what I was driving all the time. It was the strange one in the lot. Every one else drove the same one thru high school. I didn't. LOL
The two best high performance ones I had was a 70 Nova SS 396/375 HP, 4spd.
71 Challenger 340/auto.

| Did I hear you say Cadillac?
Get one of those AMC's and throw a nice ole Cadillac 500ci V8 with a 570 Stroker kit on it..
Check out the details here: http://www.500cid.com/mts/faq.htm Quote: |
Never mind you're packing up to 600 hp or close to 700 ft lb. of torque in your 540 cid stroker Cad motor. It's still a Cadillac and everyone knows they're boat anchors. You will get no respect. Because of that you will get to spank a lot of people hard. YOU WILL go home with their money after the race. You just won't be a popular guy with a popular engine under his hood.

Dad had a 57 Chevy sedan yellow with model A rack and pinon.
My first car was a 64 Nova until some id10t hit me on the freeway (60 MPH no skids into me - I wasn't moving at the time due to traffic)
I'm currently looking for a good 55-57 Checy APache Stepside Pickuo

Vass I have that same amc reaction, although the one wart's posting is cool.
One of my friends has a 1969 (I think) dodge dart. It was his parent's car and he bought it from them, didn't need to do much to it. It looks real nice! Man, that thing rips the road up! I think he told me that more recently he put an engine from a hemi barracuda in it. Personally I like the cuda look a lot more.
