Punishment warranted?
Today a guy in my county was sentenced to the death penalty. Im wondering wether or not you all think it is justified.
The man shot and killed two police officers. The officers were reporting to his house after complaints of loud music. Upon trying to enter through the door, the man shot the first officer in the head with his shotgun immediatley killing him. He then proceeded to shoot the second officer in the side as he turned to get out of the fire. The officer died later that night in shock trauma. Everything was witnessed by a third officer sitting in the car, and a civilian observer that was in the second car. The man was a known pyschoprentic (sp?) and bi-polar, however, he was found by by several physchiatrists to be fully aware of his actions, and knew exactly what he was doing. He also admitted to shooting them becuase he didnt want them on his property.
Now, I am strongly for the execution of this man, but, the reason I ask this is becuase I will almost guarantee our govenor will let him off of the death penalty. Not certain, but ill almost guarantee it. That sucks.
Opinions/comments? This may not sound like much to some of you all, but it was/is a BIG story where I come from. They were the first two officers to have ever been killed in our county.

some people see the death pentaly as a inhuman way to go. others see it as justified.
i think it depends on the case and the evidence. this person killed two officers he admitted to shooting them cause he didn't want them on his property.
i say let him fry

IMO
You shoot at any officer/paramedic/fireman deserves the death penalty.
The chair works too fast for my tastes for thes criminals. If I had my way it would last a day or 2. However that is just IMO.

Hmm...death penalty...very controversial! In this case, I would agree with GZ. I would never make it as a judge...I would be sentencing the convicted killers to die by the same means that they killed. Inhumane? Maybe. Justice? In my eyes, you better believe it! Kinda like the woman who drowned her children in the bathtub. I would drown her/revive her once for each child she killed. Of course the last time I would leave the revive part out of the equation. Ok, nuff' said for now.
BTW, I like the new avatar GZ!

Heheh I think most people around here agree that he should fry. Amazes me that people try human life so cheaply. I would honesly kill him myself if I could.

Cop killer?
Maybe other baddies have gotten outtah the death penalty by the governor, but I doubt a cop killer will.......
As for my opinion, let him fry. I suppose life w/o parole would be more "punishment" (that we could see anyway.........) but is just another waste of space in our already overcrowded prisons.

If anyone gets it, he deserves it.
I am still undecided on whether the DP is right or not. I have not done too much research on it, yet. I want to research it, but haven't had the time. While my gut reaction is to hang the perp, I am not sure if it is the right move. This is not something I struggle with politically, but spritually, hence the debate within myself. If it were only up to political reasoning, I'd say fry the sucker and televise it.

Live by the sword, die by the sword.
an eye for an eye....
just make damn sure he's guilty.(as this guy seem's to be.)
Illlinois does have a death penalty. It is temporarily suspended due to the fact that a few of the people on death row here have been proven innocent. (The suspension of the death penalty is one of the few thing's the crook of a govenor has done right.) (do a google on George Ryan)
