Thursday at GROUND ZERO

The "last girder" has been cut down toady Wednesday an will officially be removed tommorrow Thursday, marking the completion of the official clean-up of GROUND ZERO.

A Flag-drapped coffin will be removed representing those who died that fateful day 9/11/2001.

Probably it will be broadcast live and I wil post any news as I can.

While the official cleanup has ended, I can assure you that the marks are stiill there. My GF who was a few blocks away when it happened is still nervous with every event.

The Sunday New York Times ran a photograph of people jumping out of the burning tower to their deaths.

Many thought this should not have published--others thought that people needed a reminder.

One note of hope from all this: Heard on the news that there is a mini-baby boon following 9/11.

That people realized , perhaps, there's more to life than making money and time is short, and decided the time was now to have a child.

God bless America.

Good message DoooG
The outer wall to the pentagon is also nearly fully rebuilt.
The insides still need work, and a lot of renovation.. but making progress.
Hard to believe they're just now finishing the cleanup
Wonder if they're going to keep that last girder somewhere as a monument to the original towers...

It is being moved to JFK Airport for storage in anticipation of being used in some way in a Monument.

What a debate the Monument will be.

The striped bass in the Hudson River will be drawn into the debate. We lost $1.1 billion in Highway Trust Funds once because in ten years, nobody could agree what to do with it.

The two big lights were OK by me.

And the small Greek Orthodox Church in the middle of the adjacent parking lot must be rebuilt. That is the Church's plan. We picked up some of its members in my Church.

Well considering this has the worlds attention, I don't think it'll get pigeonholed like a highway fund

Keep us posted

I don't think so either. New Yorkers can unite on some things when they need to, and they did unite on this. Believe me, you had very few demonstraters after this.

. But then, the power-brokers and politicians and real-estate people and unions get into whose getting what.

Perhaps the World's attention will keep this on keel.

But like I said, the Two Lights were OK by me.

WHOOPS !

Almost forgot.

The workers who cleared the Ground Zero since 9/11 will NOT be allowed at the ceremonies.

Paper here reports families would have preferred Weekend. Maybe VIP's are in the Hamptons for the weekend...

A-list and Politicos only.

SUPER SUCKS all I got to say

wtf?
The workers aren't allowed?
I suppose they're allowing the fireman and police though?
If they weren't allowed people would notice that...

A Letter to The NY POST Newspaper.

Quote:
"It is sad that the city is not going to let the Ground Zero workers participate in tomorroe's ceremony. They are the true heroes in this tragic event. Instead, we'll see dozens of city officials--none of whom ever picked a shovel--participating and acting as if they have been there all along. God bless those workers who for what they did. We true New Yorkers know who the heroes are"--Mr. D.A., Manhattan
I am a true New Yorker--even though I often criticize this City of my birth.

And all I can say to Mr. D.A.

Amen.

I miswrote in the original Post. There will be an empty stretcher--not coffin--flag-drapped, carried out symbolically for the unfound victims.

May their souls rest in peace.

I can't believe the're not allowing the workers to attend. 8 months at Ground Zero and they decide that they aren't allowed to participate. Unfair, and just not right.

Many of those workers lost their health breathing the toxic fumes during the cleanup, as did rescue dogs. Lets not forget those who died in the attempt to rescue those trapped in the massive rubble.

The picture of those choosing to leap rather than burn should be republished as a reminder of the true horror this event represents.

Many wish to forget, I say we should remember and keep the sabre unlatched from the sheath.

We saw this on live video, aired by the local Spanish-language station. It was heart rending. May God have mercy.

Frankly, I thought that it should have been aired on the major US networks too. I think our already strong response to this attack would have been overwhelming.
