Kids Divining / Dowsing

Divining or dowsing for water.

Anyone practice it? Beleive in it.
Or have just seen it being done?

I'm curious.

Heard some tales lately of forked sticks, pieces of wire, even old hand saws.
Predicting water.

Not only where, but how deep and how much.

Any Tales? Opinions?

Chrs R.

I am pretty skeptical... and I don;t doubt it entirely from what I have heard... I can't cite any examples tho.

I haven't seen any dowsing to find water since I was pre-teenage.
But I can't say that it doesn't work. I have seen it in use quite a few times and it does work (for the right person).
There half a dozen guys in my area who routinely dowse water and sewage lines usually with accuracy of 1 foot or even less. I have been running the back hoe when they did!

Never seen it happen but from what my dad says, My Grandfather found the well on his property by dowsing. The well was over 250ft deep. This was in the 60's and we found out later(mid 80's) that an underground stream runs directly where the well is drilled.

Most locations w/reasonable rainfall will yield water when drilled down far enough.

bflurie,

Dowsing people do not say that there is simply water down there they tell you how far.

So I fail to see how the reasonable rainfall statement applies.

PS I have seen some interesting shows on the subject and I do not believe that I have ever seen one that said the dowser was a quack.

Maybe they don't call'em quacks, but they present a pretty good case.

Bflurie you are only a few minutes south of me so you know what the rainfall here is like.

I agree that yes if you go down far enough you will find water. The thing is how did he know where that stream was at. From what we found out the stream is not very wide. It also sits about 100 yards behind the house. He started at the house and moved away from it in 5 ft increments. The stick started to move when he got close to the source of the water. He kept going back and forth until he was sure there was water.

some electricians carry brass rods swiveling in brass pipes to find buried conduit
