Holiday population of your town.
The population of my town doubles, or maybe even triples during holidays such as today. I like to see the fresh faces, but it is nearly impossible to get anywhere. Everyplace is crowded and hard to get to. Drives me nuts. The population is the highest during the weekends, but most of them stay all summer long.
So, my question is, does your town get invaded by tourists every summer?

I can't speak for portland as there are already tons of people here so can't tell the difference between tourist and residents.
However.......
When i used to live in Wyoming my brother used to live about 20 miles from me in a little mountain town called Story. The normal population for this little town is 400 people. however in the summer months the total population swells to a whopping 1500 people. Most people that ownes houses up in this area are summer residents only. Why they are attracted to the place, probably the same reason as myself, its truely beautiful up there and so quiet and peaceful. Lots of advailable hiking, and stuff to do in the mountain. Just want to make sure you carry a gun into those mountains at all times cause there are mountain lions up there.

Washington, DC ... grow over memorial day weekend?
Never
With all of the military around, its nothing to see License plates from hawaii, and alaska and nearly every state...
So it all looks the same year around

My town doesnt grow at all but 25 miles away at Rehobeth Beach the town grows to about 40-70 thousand in the summer, depending if it's a holiday weekend or not.It sucks 'cause they all have to drive by my house to get there
RB is usually about 10,000 in the off season.

It gets crazy around here from Memorial day right through fall. From lake goers to leaf peepers. Then of course , there is motorcycle weekend(Fathers day weekend). That is probably the busiest time.

Every single holiday in Woodstock is crowded......foliage time is by far the worst....every Mass., New Yorker, etc. comes up to see the freaking leaves. That means lots of old people and slow drivers. My town is strictly a tourist town. Heck, Vermont is a tourist state.

I work in Oxford, UK, and have lived in the city and surrounding area for about 10 years.
During the university term, the population goes up by about 25% when the students are here, although that is very heavily concentrated in the city centre where the majority of colleges and faculties (and main shopping area) are. Oxford, like many old (medieval) universities isn't campus-based, but part of the town. Check out this map - the purple bits are colleges and there are many libraries and departments hiding in the blue bits
Of course being such a historic and attractive place, as soon as the students go, the conferences, foreign language school students and tourists arrive. Hurrah!
Oxford has in the past been very accomodating to its students |

Cold retired people flood the area. To stinkin' hot in the summer
The economy here is devistated with the beginning of Spring and stops with Summer. Picks back up in the Fall.

Here in Phoenix, our population probably drops. Everyone wants to go to the lake.
Surreal, I feel your pain. I'll be we hava worse case of snowbirds than you.
Near where I live we have two mobile home parks for retirees that are at least 1 city block in size. I think the name of one is Jurassic Park.
