Need help, got any ideas?
Picked up a used, slightly worn Herman Miller office chair at an auction for 2 bucks. It's missing one of the five wheels, which won't be hard to find a replacement for, but it's also missing the lever to allow you to raise or lower the chair. I know if I could find a replacement lever somewhere I'd be able to fix it, but I haven't been able to find one anywhere. Looked on Herman Miller's home site, and ebay with no success. So if you know where I could get one, or have any ideas for a homemade one that would do the trick, it would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Hey, thanks for the ideas, Warthog and Surreal... but I just discovered this chair doesn't have the pneumatic rasing/lowering mechanism. You raise and lower it by rotating the chair.
Basically I did what Warthog suggested, which revealed the truth to me... and in answer to Warthog's question, I couldn't find an online parts catalog or a place to order one. I didn't bother calling them, and now I don't need to...
Thanks!!

Okay, I'm also learning that finding a replacement caster at a reasonable price is harder than I expected. Anyone know where I can get a single caster for an office chair? Staples has casters, but they only sell them in sets of 5 for $50, which I can't afford.

Try a local hardware store or woodworking shop? I seem to remember seeing a bunch at Lowe's/Home Depot, but they were generic. Our local woodworker's supply has a catalog to order from, but not in stock...
Or try Surreal's info above....

| Good call, SickPup!
E.C., here's your utopia. These guys have everything I ever heard of, and reasonable, too! www.constantines.com
also, maybe: www.vandykes.com
Good luck with the Herman Miller, they are classics.

Yes, Home Depot does indeed have what I'm looking for... I'll have to see if I can get there sometime this weekend.
Thanks!

Lol, posted too quick! Thanks for the links, Knot! VanDykes has a caster that's even closer to what I'm looking for... heck, it might even be a perfect match, need to go look again. Anyhow, it's great for what I want, and it's less than $3 too! |
