Clubmed... you never did address the trichinosis info I posted... OT I know, but your claim was pretty outrageous.
As for the whole woman deal, keeping them covered and the like. I don't have strong feelings about this, but I can see with my own eyes. Maybe I should have said some rather than lots. But that is not something I am going to argue as I have few strong points I can back, my knowledge of religions of the world is limited.
Epidemic: where were you going with your reply directed towards me, I missed the main point. I wouldn't consider myself an atheist. Not entirely, scientist maybe, but not atheist.
We had a bible beater here on campus once talking about the whole seven day thing and whatnot. I quit listening when he said they had the dinosaurs on the ark. That was something else.

Basically Just deep thoughts. Gomer!!!
Those questions were not really specifically geared to atheist vs Religious. Those were just the extremes.
But I like questions with no answers they make you think.
Like if the universe is not infinite what is beyond it. or how can something go on forever.
Time how can it be forever but likewise how cant it.
Are the planets nebulas stars just atoms in a bigger universe.
ya know stuff like that.

Maybe God caused the Big Bang
| I am and have been a devout Christian, but I also believe in this and in evolution as tools God used to create the world and everything on it. God does not address how old the earth is in the Bible. Strict Creationists believe the earth is somewhere around 4000 years old and do not take stock in carbon-dating because they add teh lineages up of the people inthe Bible and get a certain age. I do not subscribe to this idea. I believe the earth is millions of yers old looking at the scientific data and seeing the lack of evidence to disprove that God used evolution. A "day" is a timespan set by man and is an earth-centric thought. Like Epidemic said, how long is one of God's days?
I have two items which I have tried to find the answers to and I cannot. They are in no way related. One is:
Is there life on other planets? I do not believe the Bible addresses this, but if it does, please let me know.
Is it correct to execute criminals (death penalty)? I have leanings toward one answer but need clarification.

| hmmmmmm very thought provoking.
Sorry, jumped into the last few pages late....I did read it all though.
So, if no religion tells woman they need to be subservient to men, then why do "they"* do it in the middle east?? Or is religion being mixed with culture? I don't get it.
*I say "they", speaking in general...that is what I see on news channels

Geekgrl, et al:
I don't think that God expects women to be slaves to men, or men to women. I do believe that He expects that we should serve each other, and do so in a humble manner. Also I believe that providing any service to another is the finest thing that we, as humans, can do.
We should serve each other as best befits our abilites. Anything else would be illogical. My wife is 5' tall and about 130 lbs. I am 5'-11" and almost 200 lbs. It makes perfect sense that I should be the one (for example) to rotate the car tires, fix the washing machine, remodel the bathroom, or do all the heavy chores. This allows her to (for example) do the laundry and light cleaning jobs & care for the pets. Now should we decide to reverse these tasks, it would be an almost impossible situation, due to our physical differences. The service we provide each other makes sense, in our situation. I think God wants us to do what makes sense, and that's why he gave us the brains to figgure it all out.
Should you wear a burka or a veil? No way! This isn't the dark ages, after all. Yet humility is a virtue, and I think people should be reasonably humble and modest. People who parade their gifts and blessings about to please themselves do little but foster bad feelings in others.
I see that the majority of people in this world are vain, proud, and serve themselves above others; and I see that our society promotes such people as deserving, when they are in fact the great losers. If you want to see a bunch of vain, arrogant, obnoxious, losers; tune in WWF or MTV some time. These folks promote what is worst and lowest in human behaviour.
OK, we can't all be Mother Tereasa, and we're not expected to be. But we can all avoid being careless, self centered, and egotistical, and so avoid bringing out the worst in ourselves and in others.

Warthog,
Actually I posted a link to a site that shows that the judeao Christian doctrine perscribes dress requirements on women as well. We just dont follow it.
I was a taken back by it as well . Never heard such things but apparently at the very least in church and according to saint paul post Jesus the thought that women should cover their heads in public. As well as not wear expensive clothes or do their hair or wear jewelry.
If the king james Bible counter acts these dress codes in later paragraphs I do not know.
