Outdoors Public Denied Protection of Armed Airline Pilots--No Consultatation

Under the Laws passed by Congress regarding Airline Security, The Transportation Security Administration and the Airlines were given the final say as to whether Pilots would be allowed to carry handguns.

TODAY TUESDAY TESTYFYING BEFORE SENATE COMMERCE COMMITTEE The UnderSecreatary for Transportation Security, John Macaw, accompanied by Transporation Secretary Norman Mineta, said NO
Quote:
Utilyzing the experience of 40 years in law enforcement and consulting with all the interested parties and having our staff with a lot of experience ,look at the issue, and obviously consulting all the way withwith Secretary [ of Transportation] Norman Mineta...I will not authorize firearms in the cockpit "--Transortation UnderSecretary for Security John Magaw
Well , I'm an interested party and no one consulted me. Did they consult you ?

United Airlines has been training staff on Tasers , but no action has been taken on those I believe.

Perhaps the Pilots Union sould have a Strike Day to weigh in as the Airlines have been quiet about this. Bad for business to talk guns, huh ?

I am a gun advocate. However that had little bearing on this no brainer. The deterent value of that gun far outweighs the risks.

I have heard so many comments that infuriate me on this topic. Ones like we can't have a bunch of cowboys flying around the skys. If these guys are cowboys why are they in charge of the safety hundreds of lives and thousands of tons of aircraft flying over our cities.

If you want to have safeguards that is fine like black box recording of a pressure switch where the gun is holstered. But the fact that the pilot is armed makes the cockpit virtually invulnerable.

Depreserization of the cabin. The air generators are more than capable of overcoming a 9 mm hole in the cabin or even several holes.

Give them them the guns if you want safety in the skies.

FF incidents seem somewhat less than important when you consider the impact the twin towers left in the ground of new york city.

I agree, I think pilots should have the option to be armed if they so wished with the proper credentials of a concealed weapons permit. Also requiring the pilots to have extensisive background checks before permits are issued and qualified to fly armed.

Don't need the knock down power of a Tech .9 withs hi-recoil in a small space, under awkward positioning, and within a meter.

A twenty-two is more suitable for the primary function: kill any intruder-- with minimal collateral damage and risk to passangers.

P.S. I think many airline pilots are ex-military with some experience with small arms.

Don't forget, special ammo is made that will break flesh but not metal.

So,

Bullet A hits Banti... all is Good
Bullet B misses Banti, but breaks apart on contact with airline skin... all is till Good.

Banti...why is everyone shooting at me?

Well then who said no period.

I still think the 9 mm is more approprate. 22 is a little bit anemic and higher velocity so the risk of a through and through is probably higher. Ahhh who cares about them first class pukes. Use the 22.

What about the contact switch in the holster located next to the pilot.

I am not talking about concealed carry permits you dont need them. The gun should be standard equipment on the pilots seat. You pull it out you better have a good reason because all the bells and whistles will go off when the hijacking transponder goes off upon removal of the gun. This is better because if the hijacker gets control of the cocpit through some freak of luck the ground control still knows about it because the gun was removed from its home. It also keeps the gun out of ground crew hands.
