For those unsure how to make the recording you can use Windows Sound Recorder...
Start --> Programs --> Accessories --> Multimedia (depends on your version of windows) Sound Recorder
If you hit record then play back, check your sound settings in the control panel... make sure your mic isn't muted and the volume for it is turned up
