/me confused

What defines the best business for minorities?

Does that mean they give priviledges/promotions to minorities more so than "non-minorities"?

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for equal opportunity 100%. Just that this politically correct crapola is lame. It's amazing that in our "advanced civilization" we still have to worry about racism and prejudice.

Glad I don't own a large business.....I'd have to make sure to hire, say, 15% Hispanics, 15% African Americans, 15% Jewish, 15% Asian.......what about German-Americans? Aren't they some kind of minority? Oh right, they're 'white'..............I say, if they want to work at my business, then they'll come, black/white/purple/green - who cares.

Am I not seeing something? No pun intended, but it's all black and white to me. Minorities 'needs/wants' should be the same as caucasian needs/wants in a job ('caucasian' is the 'majority', right? hmmmmmmm maybe someone is more insightful on this subject than I am.

I agree..

funny how they want to try and end racism.. but to do that they only look at color/race even more carefully?

I say for ethnicity on an application.. there is only one check box. HUMAN.

if they have the qualifications for the job.. they get it.. if they don't.. then they don't..

I don't see much difficulty in finding the right PERSON for the job rather than the right RACE for the job..

Sad thing is the "Ethnicity" checkbox is only really there for statistics.. because it HAS to be there. That way the company can easily look back and say "yes we're up to quota"
Personally I'd be pissed if a less qualified minority got a job ONLY because of their ethnicity. IMO its the best person for the job regardless of race/sex/ethnicity/religion/etc etc etc etc.
Now on the other hand, unfortunately that even in today "advanced civilization" there are still racially based decisions being made by businesses.. usually by the few ignorant folks who somehow came up to power by possibly other ignorant folks that think they're better than the rest because they're in the "majority"
What are they going to do 5 years from now when White isn't a majority and hispanic is? Are they going to put in a quote of "white" people that has to be hired?
Probably not... even if we do become the minority

I live in a small town in Missouri that has a lot of poultry plants in the area. We are fast becoming a hispanic niegborhood. The whites are too good to work in a place like that, but the hispanics are just glad to have a job. So people complain about them, and say they should go back where they came from. In the past 10 years we have gone to about 35% hispanic population. We are quickly becoming the minority.
I'm not racist, and most of them are really nice hard working people, who want the same thing I do, a good place to raise a family. It's not bad just different.

that Dennys story has a history:
a coupla years ago, Denny settled out of court
after being found guilty of racist practices such
as refusing to serve a black secret service agent
or fbi agent or something like that. and a whole pattern of behavior like that. and it agreed to change its "corporate culture and behavior" and this is the result.

If you all don't mind a nice lopsided story, I have one for you!

Back in November, I'd finally gotten to the point, I said "chuck it, time to look for a regular job!" Almost immediately, I got a call from a large-ish furniture firm that knew of me...they had just expanded into a new plant, needed a General Mgr, $17/hr to start...WOW! I hopped on over, met with the owner, who gave me the weird news...they were now big enough of a company to attract the attention of the Dept. of Employment, yep, "Affirmative Action" is STILL going strong out here. "Sorry, man, it woulda been great..." "yeah, so long, take it easy..."

They HAD to find a black person, and finally, had to hire ANYBODY who could be seen as African-American. The guy they hired was not qualified, and it took much time and resources out of the company to try to get him there.

I hate to say it, but the owner and I kinda wanted him to blow it, because then he (the owner) could demonstrate the specialized skill required that superseded the minority regulation...

Well, this guy turned out to be quite a fellow, he worked his butt off, staying late, learning...and aced the position!!

Well, good for him, boohoo for me. Despondant and bored, I one night punched up this odd technical site that Surreal told me about, been here ever since. So if it wasn't for Affirmative Action, you never would have seen...oh, let's leave THAT out of the conversation...well, anyway, I'd have been gainfully employed, and most likely never woulda had the pleasure of being here.

Wait....it gets weirder... Now Surreal is gainfully employed, and I'm still here, happily click-clacking away....

Moral: It's all Surreal's fault!

Verrry interesting, Knothead. I can see just how Affirmative Action can have useful spinoffs then
