Have you ever noticed?

It seems people are spending more time protecting thier computer, and less time using them............. What are your views on this?

Hmmm not sure, I think it only seems like that however being vilagant (sp) Gawd im lousy with spelling today. anyways being vilagant with security and updated AV protection is just a sign of good and smart computing.

Sometimes virus are in waves other times its really quite, or everyone has questions in reguards to maintaining thier computer in healthy status.

Hope this helps some.

I think the trend in computer protection is spreading more and more as the "hacker hype" gets bigger and bigger. As long as hackers and virus programmers stay busy creating their madness, we'll stay busy protecting our investments. Sometimes it's a scary cyber-world out there...

I ran across a program to scan ports that was so GUI friendly anyone could use it.... That's why all the security hoohoo...

Plus when ppl install a firewall they think all the reported attacks are against them.. when they're not..

What do you mean by "Hacker Hype", Martoch? Is it hype (like the 2nd-hand smoke controversy ) (sorry, couldn't resist... ) or is it a real deal?

The reason I ask, is that I don't have any protection on this bad boy, like Norton. I just don't open attachments, (well, from people we don't know,) and neither do my daughters. Am I living in a (computing) dream world? I've just never viewed viruses as much of a problem, so I've never been all that interested.

Thanks for the post, Angelcat, I've been wondering about this issue.

The reason I asked was, it seems that some people have nothing better to do, than to mess with other people's property. It is if they feel this great need to destroy, rather than create............

Angelcat,
In there eye's they are creating, First the virus, then the mess that ensues,

Knothead,
I don't leave my anti virus running all the time, but I do scan new arivalls no matter what the source. Some of the virus's will be attached to file's from friends who unknowingly pass them on other's have been in file's I downloaded.

LOL Knothead, stirring up the pot eh? Well to be honest, most experienced hackers aren't out to get the home user like you and I. Why would they risk getting caught just so they can peek at my squirrel feeder pics? I knew a few very experienced...um, software specialists...and they never wanted to...um, "investigate" what was on the computers of people they didn't know. Sure, I protect my computer because I'm on cable 24/7 and I want to make sure I'm good to go. I just don't think hacking happens as much as it's hyped up, ya know? It's a real risk, don't get me wrong...it's not all hype, but it's not happening to home users as often as most people think. Just my opinion..

Yeah my firewall sitting there does do more work than me...*coughcough*

Although, I can't say the same thing about the virus protection I don't have
