Bettas anyone?

I was just curious if anyone had bettas for a pet? If so, how often do you feed them? I've read differing opinions on this. The article at the store said twice a week, whereas on the net most places say once a day. Any ideas? Thanks,

Jeff

Of course I had to name him Snoopy.

I had a couple of those years ago. One deep blue and one red. (In separate tanks of course!) The blue one was in a 10 gal. community tank and the red one was the sole occupant of a 5 gal. tank. I fed mine once or twice a day. If it's in one of those little bowls, make sure to feed it as much as he'll eat in a few minutes (usually very little) and keep that water clean!

I always feed mine once every day. Also they are in community tanks, and I have bottom feeders that clean up the remains & an under-gravel filter that takes care of everything else.

It's pretty hard to over-feed with a filter of this type, provided that you siphon it now and then & give a partial water change in the process.

My best friend has a shop and sellsl bettas among many different specis at the shop.

they are pretty easy pets to keep, feeding them once a day a very small pinch will keep them quite happy, we feed them daily. They are quite happy fish, just don't mix them with tetras or lobsters or the harliquin rasboras and such or their fins will get chewed up.

Oh ya don't mix two bettas together unless you want to see a fish fight.

My favorite is the sting ray plan to get me a tank soon.

I have one. It just sort of got left here when my girl went back to colledge last year. He is a dark blue. I feed him one small pinch of food a day.
It is fun to watch him in the morning when I get off work. He knows it is feeding time when I come in. So he runs around the tank real fast till I feed him. LOL

Bettas are known by a few different names. Chinese Fighting Fish, Male Betta, Simese (SP?) fighting fish to name a few. Betta is the classification of species these fish are in.

funny you say to keep away from mirrors cause at the shop the sides of the tanks are refelected off the other tanks which in effects makes a mirror to the sides of the tanks and watching the bettas just crack me up. they will stay towards the sides of the tanks seeing themselves and you can see thier gills puffing out like they do when they are getting ready to fight another one.

They are pretty cool fish, Altho my favorite is still the stingray.

Next would be the pencil fish only this one particular one not the breed because he was a lone suvivor of of the 10 we had gotten.
