OMG - They are suing for what?
http://www.washtimes.com/national/20020511-9699493.htm
Basically, it seems to me that some men were trying to illegally cross into the US. They snuck through the desert and then died attempting to cross it. Now their familes are suing the US for $41 million dollars for not leaving water in the middle of the desert for these criminals.
What is everyone's thought on this?
I have no compassion for these men. They gambled & lost. I can't believe that their families would somehow blame the US for their deaths.

Its sad that they died and i think some compassion should be shown because there must have been some hell of a reason to risk life by attempting walking accross a desert but no suing isn't the right thing to do.

I don't have much to say about this...no doubt that the family had a good reason for wanting to cross into the US, but they knew what they were doing was illegal. There are legal avenues that they should have pursued in an attempt to make it to the US. Enough said...

Attorneys for survivors of the deceased said that U.S. Border Patrol policies had shut down more populous portions of the Arizona border and forced illegal aliens to enter through more remote areas.
| Forced??? Sounds to me like they're doing their jobs, for a change! If it's darn near impossible to get here alive illegally, maybe they'll do it legal - or just stay home! Quote:
"What these agencies knew — or should have known — is that by doing this, and with a history of deaths in the desert, these people would cross in these dangerous areas," said A. James Clark, one of the two Yuma lawyers filing the claim. "It would have cost the government nothing to put water stations in, as it had done in other locations."
The claim says the agencies rejected a request made shortly before the deaths by the Tucson humanitarian group Humane Borders to place 60-gallon water stations in the refuge, as it has done in other parts of the desert. | This implies that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has intentianally aided Federal criminals!
But way down further, the article says the existing waterholes were put there for endangered animals.
As I see it, the only mistake these agencies have made is in not somehow securing those waterholes!! BTW, I've nothing against Mexicans, or any legal immigrants!! |

Considering the increased interest for US security...they got what they deserved.
They should know better than to try something like this (illegal entry and the lawsuit) during the current state of world affairs.
In fact their lawsuit will only result in stricter red tape and make it harder for the legal immigrants to process.

Well in the Wash DC area there is a HIGH percentage of illegals and its FRUSTRATING!!!
Here I am, my wife is canadian and I'm trying to bring her in LEGALLY.. and its harder to get her in here legally, than it is for her to get here illegally
And she's just canadian, can't imagine if she was Russian or from Syria or something

Did these people consider the risks? What would be the legal recourse(s) if a person entered Mexico ilegally and the same thing happened?
I wonder if the families sought out the lawyers or vice versa?

More than likely, the ambulance chasing lawyers sought out the families.
99% of all lawyers give the rest a bad name |
