I can't believe how dependent I've become

It seems that all of the cell phones in my area are not working. I'm not sure what happened. We've had high winds today so maybe an antenna has come down, or somebody cut the wrong wire (if it is a single wire, I sure would appreciate some redundacy). Either way, the event has made me realize how damn dependent I've become on this device. Two years ago, I could not think of a reason why I needed a cell phone, but bought one anyway because I had just moved and needed some way to be contacted. Now, I feel lost if I do not have the phone with me at all times, which is absolutely absurd. Still, I can't see not having one ever again.

Now, I am without service and am confused (I am exagerating here). Seriously, sometimes I think it would be better to live a simpler life, perhaps in the Northwoods, without the modern conveniences, and not have to get worked up about things like this that are actually quite trivial in the grand scheme of things.

Anyone else have a cellphone addiction?

I'm not addicted to cell phones, but I know what you mean--I feel that way about the internet. I get so engrossed at various websites (naming no names!) and/or I get interested in something and spend hours researching and reading about it. Sometimes I don't get enough sleep because it's my only time to really fool around on the net. It can get really ridiculous!

I do remember a time, not that many years ago, when I got along without a computer at all!

lol, I have the same 'problem'

Often I'm up 'til 2-3am, even when I have to get up @ 9am....just hitting F5 on timo and chatting nonsense with guys from techimo.

One wonders who one can be addicted to a phone. You talk to people all the time?

I use the cellphone an enormous amount, mainly for work, and, as they are paying, calls may not be a short as possible (we do get personal use, in practise unlimited )
Rather than a dependance I find they give me freedom, I can be anywhere and still be contacted.
It is very frustrating when you are in an area where the service is poor, and it is always where there is no land-line available.

Couldn't be without a cell or the internet now, addiction, dependance or just using tools, who knows.

I have a personal cell phone, and for work we're required to carry a blackberry (www.rim.net) so we can get emails at all times!!
Its a sweet little tool, I can send/receive emails from anywhere Cingular wireless has service. (primarily in the US, and some part of southern Ontario). Its quite the expensive little toy, but because we're an enterprise we get unlimited emails
There's been times I'll just for the hell of it email my wife LOL
I also use my cell phone, but primarily for being able to be available at any time for work or from my wife... or emergencies. I also use it because I have 3 other roommates, and umm well they don't like hearing the phone ring at 3am
I could live without both, but why? lol

Why the Hell would I want a phone to carry around? People would be able to call me.

Yeah, I could not imagine not having it. The service came back on after about three hours of downtime last night. I felt pretty relieved, although I was forced to call girlfriend on a landline before then. One aspect of cellphones that I appreciate the most is the free long distance.

Thankfully for me, the cellphone is purely personal. Work does not know the number, nor would I give it to them. When I go home from work, I like to be forgotten.
