First Receipient of Cato Institute's Milton Friedman Liberty Award Dies

Peter. T. Bauer who argued in many books against the prevalent social planning model of economic development for less developed economies died on May 3, 2002.

He was to receive in several days the Cato Institute's , a conservative Liberitarian Organization's, first Milton Friedman Liberty Award, named after the famed free-market economist.

The presentation was to be tomorrow, Thursday, May 8th.

"the ..advisers who have taken the time ...to acquaint themselves with the problem...all recommend central planning as the first condition of progress"--Noble Laureate in Economics Gunner Myrdal
Prof. Emeritus Bauer at The London School of Economics, argued against this view--which he believed was a reason for the slow development of centralized Third-World economies.

He was right too. It's the small independant entrepreneur that drives the real economy. It's not the "phoney" economy (the one you read about in The Wall Street Journal) of big certralized government/business. Those things may have slow long-term effects, but it's the guy selling bread on the corner today that gets the money circulating.
