I did a survey followed by a research paper on that a few months ago and my conclusion is that most people tend to stick with what they are familiar with, and most people are familiar with Intel. If you're not in marketing, that's know as "brand familiarity." I'd bet that if AMD did as much advertising as Intel, they'd be selling more processors. I also noted that those same Intel users were generally resistant change, did not build their own PC's and had the "it costs more so it's better" (higher price=better quality) mentality. The AMD users were quite the opposite, but that's another story.

Sorry I can't help you directly, but...

One of my one time friends (now departed) was an intel extremis. His reasoning was that the software and most of the rest of the machine was optimized for the intel processor. His legacy still lives on today in the many common acquaintances of ours that have had that drilled into thier heads so many times that they won't even listen to arguement...

Anyway I was just trying to point out that this optimizing was once the total reality of the software market. Thus people learned this and lived with it. It became an unmutable fact of thier lives, and they passed this on to others.

How you can make sense out of that...

BTW: The last Intel I owned (gift) was a 486DX2/66 (and it was a good machine in its day).

Showing my age again...

I have Intel because I have a Dell and that's what it came with

If I built, I would go to AMD simply because they are cheaper and you get the same result.

I'm not and AMD geek weenie who thinks of a processor brand as their national pride or something.....

There are still alot of people here with intel's, just not this particular bunch.

I do have 1 running, but still of no real help. (it's a p166@180 I found dumpster diving at work.)

Never bought one. Got 'em all for free when I upgraded other people's PC's

Only processor I have actually bought besides my trusty 486 DX-2 66 (which was Intel - I had no idea what an Intel was when I bought that about 7 or so years ago) was an AMD Duron 800, last year.

The rest are hand-me-downs!

Sorry I can't help - sounds like an interesting project!

Cheers
Mick

I have an intel p2 233. Bought it w/ a dell, it was the only major (popular) chip manufacturer at that time.
