Systems In memory of an Air Force comrade...

This thread is dedicated to the memory of fellow Air Force member, 21 yr old Casey Smith, who departed this life 4 May 2002 while stationed in Italy. Casey was a member of my communications squadron here in Florida. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Thank you for serving by my side Casey...you will be missed by many.

Mike

Thank you for taking interest.

I really don't know the details...all I know is that he fell from the 7th floor of a building near his base in Italy. I believe an investigation is in progress. You know...the hardest part about being at the memorial service today was trying to come up with something to say just before I hugged his Mom. This is just one of those times where there really aren't any right words...

Very tragic for someone that age. At any age. But particularly that.

Someone said that "In times of peace, sons bury their fathers. In war, fathers bury their sons." Its a terrible facet of life and one which makes us question God's wisdom in doing what HE does.

Being at the service was twice as difficult for me because I was not only looking through the eyes of a comrade, but that of a father. Seeing any parents mourn the loss of their child is more than I can bear.

It is truly sad when we lose one of ours. I have not had that (loss of an AF buddy) happen to me and I hope I never do. My condolences and I hope they figure out what caused this accident.

Dave

I have kids this same age, and I know I always take it hard whenever something happens to one of them.

Bless him and his family.

Perhaps he died in a needless accident, but he also died in the service of us all. That is how it should always be remembered.

Cadd.
