We need some new music!

We being my son and I...

You know the music rut? You look at your CD's and all your fav's are like a couple years old... (The new Moby cd is pretty good.. 18)

So I need some music suggestions.. I like most everything but pop and Enya type stuff. Including some stuff that's way out there.{Transglobal Underground for one..}

My son wants some suggestions too.. his latest Favorite is Flogging Molly. He likes Incubus too. (I was surprised at that).

Any suggestions on New stuff, like in the last year or 2?

Whenever I get like that, I go BACKWARDS. I have a friend who owns a record store, (yep, licorice pizzas,) and we'll put on all kinds of stuff from the 30's, 40's, and 50's...I just picked-up a Sinatra collection of 16 disks in a box, (Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs, oh, yeah, baby! ) and it's absolutely intergalactic!! My daughters aren't even sick of it yet!
Also old blues...you can't go wrong with Robert Johnson, but here's a guy that people forget about a lot, Mississippi John Hurt. The humanity that came outta that sweet, simple old man is truly astonishing. It's just his voice and (amazingly complex) nylon-string guitar There's a 3-cd collection of his last works from Verve, highly recommended!!
Also Moby, pretty good, I hear...

Try the Stereophonics. They are a band from London, similar to (but better than IMHO) the Black Crowes.

Or there is a new disk I just got from The White Stripes. A garage rock band. Never heard of them before, but they are pretty good. Definitely something different.
