I remember turning 18 and taking my first "legal" drink. (when I was going to school in wyoming.)
Then I had to wait until I turned 21 to drink legaly back home in Illinois.

fix your own car
pay all your own bills
cook your own meals
Get a job or 2 that pay enough to do that stuff.......
