Chemical burn advice

Help, please.

I got sent home early because I got a bad chemical burn on my arms and face. I don't have health insurance and already have a judgement against me from the last time I went to the hospital.

Help. My skin is starting to swell. Aloe didn't work.

Given that this happened at work, aren't they responsible for for taking care of it?

Either way, I say bite the bullet and get to a doctor, pronto.

Errrrr yeah, I'd go to the doctor.......$$$ is only a temporary problem, and like Thud said, it should be a liability issue since it happened @ work/school/whatever....

Chemicals on your skin can do 'very bad things'....birth defects, cancer, burns....

They're not supposed to send you home. They're supoposed to send you to a doctor! Don't you guys have "Workman's Comp" insurance? All businesses here must have that.

I hope you filled out your OSHA form before you left work.

as far as I know every state in the us requires workmans comp. In some the business can self-insure instead. In either case the business is liable for job related injuries.
Sounds like irresponsible mamagement or they are trying to save a buck, maybe both.
(I'm a contractor. If I treated someone working for me like that. I'd be lucky to hang onto my license)
Contact your local workmens compensation board ASAP! In many states they will also offer "some" legal guidance (no cost) and will mediate between the employ and the employer.

BTW if your previous hospital trip was job related they may be able to help there as well

Chemical burns can be very dangerous. Some chemicals can "leach" into the skin and cause very nasty skin problems. Did the chemical get well washed off with copious running water?

Most creams don't help if the chemical is still "burning" the skin, and will only compound the problem.

Any business handling chemicals should have emergency showers. Did they have one, and did you use it? The first few minutes after a chemical burn is most important - get the chemical off your skin and clothing!

It sounds like your employer needs a shake-up in their safety handling. Did a doc check you before you went home? If not, they could be in serious trouble withthe saftey authorities, depening on your local laws.

Please let us know how you are prexapses.

Cheers
Mick

I'm assuming that he went to the doctor since we haven't heard from him... I'm curious what the chemical was!
