Unstealable Honda Accord

Just bought my sister a 1995 Honda Accord LX with auto start and and aftermarket alarm/starter kill switch. Since these things have a high theft rate...I was told by someone that has "friends" that steals these things to put a separate starter kill switch hidden on the driver side. A shop owner told me to get a starter kill switch that has a "barrel key as the kill switch". It sounds like a good idea. Any other ideas on keeping this thing from becomming a statistic? TIA

Well, quite. But let's say your average thief hasn't got a flatbed, and what he hasn't got is time, so the more obstacles you can put in the thiefs way the better. When it comes to car security I always like physical deterents, steering wheel lock, gear lever locks, dead locks on the doors, that kind of thing. The more you delay the thief the better.

It's a good idea with the key killer switch, have one fitted myself!

starter switch is the most common one used...and the theif knows it. if they are going to break the lock, and no starter sound, they know what wires to cross... use your own twist to it, use a an fuel pump switch. if the car cranks, but wont start, they are more likely to leave it rather than if it just makes no noise at all

i had considered that, tapping into the headlight circuit with a relay, breaking the circuit that goes to the fuel pump, so that at a minimum, the parking lights have to be for the car to start

I like the security system I installed on one of my old cars. It would allow you to start the car and take off, but the first time that the brakes were applied, the engine would die and the lights and siren would kick in.

Guaranteed, this would draw a lot of attention to the car and the thief

While I was living in St. Charles Ill., I wired up a switch that ran to two relay's under the hood. One was for the fuel pump, and the other was for the coil. The sw. was hidden under the dash, way up there, so it was hard to find unless you knew it was there. That way when I left my truck, I reached up there and turned it off. Just had to remember to turn it on before I tried to start it. Although once a wire came off the sw. while I was at a light on North Ave(at the drive in theater to be exact). Sheesh, what a pain to try and fix, especialy there. That night I fixed it so they NEVER came off again.
Well, I kinda rambled on, but you get the drift.

I have an alarm with lots of "toys!" A Piezo siren inside the cabin (SUPER LOUD) with a backup battery, a mechanical hood lock so they can't disconnect the battery, the alarm itself is NOT under the dash and the wires are blended in with the factory ones, I have a "dummy" starter kill switch under the dash, my alarm blares the siren AND the horn (actually attracts more attention this way) simultaneously, my locks have plates installed around them so they can't be slim jim'd, and to top it off, I have a paging system hooked into it. The only way they'll be stealing my car is if they tow it! Can't you tell I'm paranoid?

I got this crazy idea, what if you just carry insurance on it, lock it up, and just hope it doesn't get stolen?

It's always worked for me. (of course my van is an 86 and has 268,000 miles...probably not on the top 10 most stolen cars list)

How many cars have you guys had stolen anyway? I've never had one stolen, nor had a friend have one stolen.
