Drunken Driving: okay, you drive to this bar.....

....and logically, you will drink and drive home.
the state has a legal blood alcohol limit of
0.08% which for my size (170 pounds or
77 kg) means 1 drink and your driving legal
2 drinks and your legally drunk. no-one
in the bar lives close enough to walk,
everyone had to drive to get there.
very few if any seem to be limiting themself to only 1 drink. by law the
bartender should
cut everyone off after 1 drink, but this will
never happen. isnt society encouraging drunk driving
in these situations? have you been there too? do you drive legally drunk (2 drinks)
sometimes/always/ rarely/never?

Carpool with friends and have one designated driver. The peopel I work for look down greatly on DUIs and it can ruin your career with just one offense, so we car pool as much as possible. If things get tight, we get a cab. Personal responsibility is the key. The bartender doesn't know who's driving and it is not his job to figure it out. The key is something lacking in the US today...personal responsibility.

Dave

I should add, the 1 drink thing is per hour and depends on what you drink. I can easily grab a Guiness and have 1-2/ hour and stay below the legal limit. The limit for me though, is if I have more than 1 beer, I don't drive. This has not always been the case since I have grown up alot since college and become more responsible.

I'm always the designated driver!
I don't mind though, I don't like the taste of alchohol, and I do pretty good at getting high on life! It's pretty fun watching all the other people get drunk when you're sober!

I disagree. People are annoying enough as is, but when they're drunk and you're not, they usually become irritating as hell.

LOL Seems like another antisocial comment.. J/K.. I think it depends who the person is, some people are comical when drunk but others can be irritating as hell.

I disagree with DUI totally becuase of an incident in my childhood where my best friends dad was killed by a drunk behind the wheel, The drunk walked away.

I always refuse to get in cars with anyone drunk unless they ride in back.

Driving while drunk, never. I happen to love to drink, but I understand the problems with people behind the wheel. I never drive a vehicle after even a single drink even though I weight 210 lbs. As far as walking though, I generally am more than willing to walk between 2 to 3 miles to a bar depending on its location and the walk there.

Whist not condoning drunk-driving in any way, while legislators impose laws that are not common sense people will ignore them.

The point at which one becomes drunk to the point of not being able to control a vehicle is difficult to acertain, and each authority will set their limit. Some of the Scandinavian countries have extremely low limits, in the UK it translates to about 4 units (a unit being roughly, 1 glass of wine, 1 measure (standard throughout UK) of spirit, or half a pint of beer) so two pints and you are on the edge (some will be over.
Drunk driving is treated very harshly here, you are almost certain, if caught, to loose your license for a year as the minimum punishment, and rightly so (as long as the limit is set sensibly)
