The point of my comment about the 100 MPH speed is that it proves that the cops lied once-under oath. If they lied once, they probably lied about everything they said, or at least you have to assume that to be so.
Poor baton training was a part of it-they were basically taught to hit the suspect many, many times. Since this was department policy, and they were following it, this was the main reason they were aquitted the first time.
Now, while not directly related to police corruption (but related to the riots, true), in the Latasha Harlins case, the shopkeeper was wrong. The girl was leaving the store, and therefore was no longer an immediate threat-so you can't use deadly force on somebody disengaging the scene. That is the law. The shopkeeper probably should have done some jail time (not a long stretch, but some), but obviously the judge thought the initial crime mitigated the deadly act more than I do. The initial crime DOES mitigate it, but not by that much, IMHO.
