First flying lesson--Anyone here fly?

Hey, I just took my first flying lesson today! Totally cool! We did some 30 and 45 degree turn, touch and go (2 landings) and stalls. I tell you, that first stall was HARSH! The instructor did the first one and was not totally used to the feel of the plane and made us dip alot more than he intended. Scary!

The NIFT (AF program I enrolled in) takes me up to just before soloing, then I am on my own after that. They pay for the first 20 hours. For pilots, they pay for the whole thing. I can join the Aero club at the base and get the rest at about half price which is nice, I guess.

Dave

I used to fly with CAP (Civil Air Patrol)! It was awesome! Our squardren owned it's own piper Cheroke! It was a fun plane! I did some flying, but never got to stall it out. I really impressed my instructer though! I had logged countless hours on MS flight sim before hand and actaully flying was second nature to me! I'd pick up a new version of MS flight sim, and a nice yoke and ruder pedals to go along with it! It will pay off!

I often go out with a buddy and rent a Piper Cherokee to go on short trips. He has a license, but though I love to fly, I will never get one. My eyes are just not good enough for me to be comfortable on a solo. That means I'll never be more than the co-pilot, and I'll always rely on a "spotter" who is 20/20.

Still, it'a a lot of fun. I almost gave up on the whole dream when I figured out that my eyes were so bad that the Air Force wasn't even going to let me wash a plane. I'm glad I didn't.

All you have to do is memorize the eye charts. Anybody can fly a 13Million dollar plane in the Air Force if they really want to ! lol

I got my license (Private Pilot: Airplane Single Engine Land) when I was 17. It's quite a rush and a feeling of freedom, especially the first time you solo - being up there, knowing that you're the only one that's going to be able to get the plane on the ground, etc. It's a kind of a "oh my God this is scary" / this is way cool sort of feeling .

I learned in a C-152 - what does the AF use?

The light aircraft always seem too flimsy to me, great views though.

Congrats daveleau

I envy you.

I took an inro flight when I was in the Air Force. Fell in love with the idea of flying then fell in love with a woman. Guess what happened next?
