Kids How do hackers get where they are?

Ok, before I start, I want to say that I do NOT want to be a hacker, etc. Nor do I think it's a good thing to do.
But, I'm curious about hackers/people who write viruses?
How do they learn what they know? And why do they do what they do?
Also, do you even have to be good at writing viruses? I wouldn't think you would have to be that good of a programmer. Maybe I'm wrong.
Anyway, I'm curious after reading a story about this 18 year old hacker chick.

hackers desire to learn more and more about what they use. they pull programs apart and put them back together looking for holes.

they learn from the internet, from friends and other hackers. programming is not nessecary but knowing it helps

as for virus writing, they having programs out there that can create viruses. any punk kid can make one with acouple of clicks with his mouse

May I suggest a book called "Underground". It's about hackers in the late 1980's/early 1990's. It is available in .txt format and if you want I can send you the file or give you a link for it. I read it and found a great insight in the world and minds of hackers.

You have a new PM.

Edit: Since the link points to a site where there's alot of hacking info and it might be in conflict with the forums rules to post the link on the board, anyone who'd like to read it can PM me fr the link.

Thanks!! I appreciate it!

(AGAIN, let's reinforce that this is NOT a thread to encourage hacking. I was merely trying to figure out what goes on in what seems to me a different world....)

Apparently, hacking is the dark side of copy protection and security. That is, a form of making a computer do things it doesn't normally do or stop a computer from doing things it normally can do.

Government hackers are all youngsters! They guy the wrote the Chernobyl virus, which was one of the most destructive viruses as it attacks hardware, was first convicted of a crime. Then, he was hired by the Taiwan government.
