Outdoors OMG. I just got spammed in my cellphone!

Ok, I think I just got spam in my cellphone.

I received an sms from a looong number(way too long to be a number we have here in sweden) that read:

"Hellu, what's your email adress, I want to send you something you might wanna see. *XXX*" and then some crap about sms after that.

How the **** did they get my number? And what gives them the right to send me stuff!? Am I going to get spammed on my cellphone too now?

I am going to hunt someone down for this.

You might want to call your cell company to talk to them. On my plan I have to pay per message (20 free a month). This spamming could start to cost you money.

What? In what way? I pay for the sms service. Therefor, I should not need to get spammed.

Talk to your phone provider, we get it a lot over here in the uk, it is annoying & can cost people a lot of money without them realising, if u have a mobile watchdog or silmilar consumer company try talking to them aswell.

This may seem a bit over-kill & it probably is.

p.s DON'T EVER REPLY TO THEM - this will often cost u money

Did you know that there is some fairly new technology out there that will:

For example a store inside a mall can get a signal from your cell phone as you walk by their store. It will turn right around and call you and invite you to come shop with them…These same devices will also be able to produce a print out showing an approximate location where your phone was at any given time of the day.

I just got spammed from AT&T on my cell phone. They sent me a text AD about using text messaging. I called them up and politely explained that I did not appreciate recieving ADs from them, especially while I'm driving. They put a block on the ADs. At least that's what they told me.

Funning thing was that when they put me on hold there was an AD telling me that my cell phone shouldn't be a distraction. Duh. Then it went into a spill about getting text messaging. Just cant win.

Isn't this mainly used (in theroy) for 911 calls, so they can tell where the fark you are when you dial 911 and then go I've been shot and then the line goes dead. Now, of course, they are threating to use this in the way you described, but there are non-evil uses as well for the same technology.

This technology is getting scary. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but what happens if the wrong people get their hands on these things. I'm a very paranoid person normally, but this scares the *** out of me. Maybe just get rid of the cell.

Technology isn't inherently good or evil. Technology is a double-edged sword that can only be mastered by walking the razor-thin edge.
Example? Nuclear technology. It has both the power to give cheap, abundant energy and to power spacecraft (a curiosity that never (pardon the pun) took off). But it also has the capability to destroy life and civilization. We are starting to see a black & white to consumer electronics technology(cells, comps, internet, etc.).
