READ ME
Anybody here like censorship? Well, there's this old Disney movie called "Song of the South" that has been burried because certain folks believe it to be a racist movie. Well, I've seen it, and don't recal any racial motivation in the flick (though I was pretty young). But even if this were so, since when do we do crap like this? There are a ton of racial, grotesque, and otherwise disturbing movies and cartoons out there. Why has this one been singled out?
I'm not a racist man by any means. This stuff is just rediculous. Go to this page if you would like to help get "Song of the South" rereleased http://www.geocities.com/athens/5564/sosp.html#DO THIS
If ya don't want to fill out any of the forms, at least give the toll free number a ring and give them an official request.

Zip-a-de-doo-dah, dude!
Done deal.
I can't fathom the idiots that would object to the portrayal of Blacks in that movie. You don't see them protesting Blade, or Bones! Those things were horrible!
Do Blacks want White people to see them all as a bunch of weapon-toting mayhem artists? Better a leather-jacketed murderer than a foot-shuffling servant, I guess. Not exactly what's in that Bible that Jesse Jackson keeps pounding on. |

Hi DangerSeeker-
Thanks for posting. This would better suit the Community (non-tech) forum. While this forum says general discussion, it is general discussion on the forum topic of shopping and trading. I am moving it to Community now.
Thanks and enjoy the forums
Dave

I don't know about any racial motivation in the movie. I'd have to see it again to make a call on that. As it sits in my memory now it seemed to be racialy positive.
Right now I remember it as being the only old disney movie that had a person of color as a main character and as a role model. Hmmm...and it gets canned. I would think a racialy motivated movie would be all the other ones they made with only white people in them |

I barely remember the movie, but I don't recall anything racial at the time.
...but values change, and what was once percieved as racially positive could be seen completely differently a generation later!
Disney has always wished to be seen as wholesome & positive, and what was worthy of their logo may not be at this time.
This is not censorship. Everything on that page indicates that Disney removed it from circulation. They have the right to pull their product "off the shelf" if they decide it doesn't fit their public image. Or for any reason, for that matter!!

I read something on this recently, and the objections toward it were not necessarily because it portrayed blacks in a negative light, but because it painted too pretty a picture of slavery.
Having not seen it in many moons, I can't really comment further than that.

Having not seen it in many moons, I can't really comment further than that. | Yes...that's their main point...it painting that picture. Similar to racial motivation in my mind. And I would like to see it released, as it has been many moons since anyone has seen it in NTSC format. You can order PAL tapes from Europe, and some will convert it to PAL for you for some extra $$ and include it with the original PAL tape.
It's just crazy.
Did anyone else here catch the news shortly after Episode 1 was released? The NACCP attempted to bring a lawsuit (threatened at least) again George Lucas because of JarJar Binks! That was insane...I'll have to see if there's still any web coverage of that around, as it was quite rediculous.

Someone brought this up on a local radio station's morning show.
I never saw it, but I found that if you really want to buy it just get it from amazon's uk site or somewhere like that.
You've got to get that thing about jarjar danger seeker. I never heard anything about that, I don't know what they could've had a problem with. I couldn't stand jarjar though, man that thing is annoying!

A lot of the classic Bugs Bunny episodes produced during WW II have also been pulled from circulation. I get so tired of all this politically correct crap.
