I am hearing that it was posibly a boiler room explosion and that there did not seem to be any explosives at the scene.

NEW YORK — An eight-story building in New York City has partially collapsed, apparently following an explosion, and more than 20 people have been injured.


The collapse occurred at the building that houses the Apex Technical School, in the Chelsea neighborhood of downtown Manhattan.

More than 100 firefighters were called to the scene. Twenty-one people reportedly were being treated for injuries.

Fire officials said there was an explosion on the second floor at 11:29 a.m., and that the blast had collapsed some floors of the building. They said the blast may have been an industrial accident.

But school officials said the explosion occurred in a nearby building, and not at the school.

The school offers training in such fields as welding, automotive repair, refrigeration, air conditioning, and appliance technology.

For whatever it's worth---yes, another day, another phonecall--is that some work in one building set off of paint or some other inflammables in another building. Some have it the same building.

Anyhow today in Take Your Daughters to Work Day about 50 were injured .

Apex Trade School evacuated; runs regular fire drills.
Explosion was in a Sign Co.-OR--by flammables stored elsewhere by Sign Co.
Not a boiler room explosion.
Several area hospitals were used.
19 th Street in a fashionable Chelea area --known for its Fashion Manniquins and up in coming Restaurants.
Don't know more.
But not terrorism by all accounts--for what that is worth.

EDIT: Appears to be one building, mixed-use, that contained both Apex Tech School and a Sign Co that stored inflammables in basement.

I'm at my mom's work because of this take your kid to work day. i had no idea any of this happened .
