LOL, reading some replies, a person would be forgiven for thinking that a sense of humour can now be surgically removed

Definately an advert for not taking oneself too seriously!!!

Monica goes to the dry cleaners (who happens to be somewhat hard of hearing), soiled dress in hand.

"Could you clean dress this, please"

"Come again???"

"No, ketchup this time".

Sealteamthree: Well put and I do agree on many of the points you've made. But then, politics is politics. Bush did a great job in Afghanistan but now he is getting out of control.

But the sad part is he is surrounded by hawkish, extreme right wingers like Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld. War and military action, as has been pointed out in earlier threads on the Israeli-Palestinian conflicts, serves not only the political motives but also the economic goals of some of the largest corporations on earth.

It is chaos and conflict that puts people like Rumsfeld/Cheney/Sharon/Arafat in the global limelight.

What would Tom Ridge be without terrorism? Who heard of him earlier? Look at the smugness of these guys on TV - they just soak up all the media attention and keep talking of threats to banks or whatever. Look at Ari Fletcher at the daily White House briefings? A shifty-eyed, vague, phony dude if I ever saw one.

Terrorists have been wiped out, more or less. But, these guys are crying wolf only for their own selfish political reasons.

Sorry for the rant, but I feel things are slowly going out of hand. Bush reacted as a leader on 9/11. But now he is incoherent, talks of evil like he is GOD and is just out of control.

But then he's also a very funny (funny as in Hahaha, not odd) guy.

Yeah, I agree the war/conflicts will keep going till 2004 because he needs it to get re-elected. Not that the Democrats have anyone yet.

uhhh... quite possibly Vice President. Ridge was on the short list for VP but he declined.

George senior is constantly critisized by both sides for not finishing the job in Iraq. I'm shocked that some believe that we've completed the task of reducing the threat of terrorism. We may have uprooted most of the terrorists from the hills of Afghanistan, but we still haven't accounted for many of the terrorist leaders. There are terrorist cells and organizations all over the world. If we reduce the pressure and allow them to get comfortable. we can expect more 9/11's.

FINISH THE JOB!!!

Maybe it's time for another round of jokes ....

Who????

LOL, alright, lets pull out then! Bush has gotten "out of control", he's a madman on the loose. I agree, his political agenda MUST be stopped! Hey, I'll start a rally in front of the White House tomorrow and we'll see where that gets us. If wars are just for politics, why have them?

*coughcough* Someone forgot the pain of 9/11

Wag The Dog all over again.

Terrorism can never be "wiped" out like a disease. It's too well entrenched and rooted. What I meant was that the terrorist organizations in Afghanistan have been decimated for the time being. There is no threat here (US) now.

Bush did a good job in Afghanistan dealing with the terrorists, but now he's over doing it. Look at the way he's handling the mideast crisis. No policy at all. Weak. The guy is almost a wimp. Contrast to the leadership shown by Sharon, however perverted it may be.

Bush doen't have the charisma, the personality, the stature of a US President. He did well in a crisis situation, no dispute about that. But you can't always have such props (or create them) to be a leader. Today, he flounders.

Bush will pursue chaos/violence till 2004 - he needs this to exert "leadership" and to win the elections.

That is the bottom line for Bush- He must win the re-election.

maybe thats a good thing, given the dearth of suitable alternatives.

But it'd be naive to think politicians put anyone or any country's interest ahead of theirs. History has shown that consistently. There are exceptions. But very few.

Wonder how many think Bush has the stellar qualities and ideals to do what is best for the country?

Why do we have wars if they are just politics?

Simple. Wars are started as conflicts between governments/countries/peoples. They are fanned/escalated by interested parties: the arms manufacturers, the politicians and the military establishment. Remember, only in war times is the military/defence establishments strong and powerful.

Imagine, what would be Rumsfeld's authority if there was no conflict of any sort?

As far as Ridge goes, he's been treated unfairly. Lot of accountability but no teeth. No operational budget/authority whatsoever. He'll be made a scapegoat eventually.

These are very complex situations and need solutions which are not apparent immediately. And they need leadership.

Strong leadership.

That, in my opinion, is the sad, ironic truth.

I can't believe what I'm hearing.

Attacks on civilians (WTC, bus stations, shopping malls, weddings) is NOT an acceptable method of advancing a political agenda. I really feel sorry for those that can't see the difference between flying an airplane into the a building full of civilians and destroying the assets of those who support the destruction of PURELY civilian targets.

Classifying retailiation against those who support the death of of innocent people for the advancement of a ideological agenda as "Terrorism" is absolutely shameful, and it de-values the lives of those who died on 9/11
