lesson learned while dumpster diving.

A lady friend at work asked if I could find her a monitor. Well me being me I said sure I'll keep an eye out. Unfortunatly the trash guys dumped the load in the compacter before I had a chance to sort through the junk. So I grabbed the key to the compactor before climbing in.( Don't try this at home!) climbed in rescued the monitor, and climbed down the ladder. It was at this point I made my mistake. I was holding the monitor by the base and the top, the base broke, and the monitor fell on the big toe of my right foot. Luckly all iT did was bruise it pretty well.

What did I learn
1. never ho9ld a monitor by the base.
2.I can throw a 15" monitor about 20 feet.

there is a happy ending my toe is better now ,and I found her an even better 17" monitor the next night.

As for dumpster diving: A friend was in apartment maintaince for a large complex. Used to turn up with all sorts of stuff, to the point of transforming one end of a storage 'room' (about half the size of a football field, not kidding) into a rotating garage sale. Got one of our first home PC's from him. He offered to furnish our first house, just to help him clear out the space!

Got another home comp from a major corp in the area which was refurbishing. Tried for some of the desks and others but didn't have a truck...

BTW: What other events are in the TIMO Olympics?

(How about the fastest tech support call with results?)

mine just happens to be at work. it is also a matter of timing if you know when housekeeping picks up the IT trash you know when to be at the dumpster. I know the guy who picks up the trash. Lucky me.
